Region 7.

I honestly believe the championship is between New England and Beulah. New England was victim of playing a team too many times in districts (Heart River, they had played and beaten them 3 times prior) They played terrible and got beat....they are a 4 seed?!?!?! Whoever wins that game will beat Trinity in the title game. I hate that one of these teams loses and is done first night, NE's fault for losing a game they shouldn't have. The Zacher kid from Beulah is a Mr. Bball candidate next year.

Considering NE hasn't beaten any of the top three this year in D14 and has losses to Heart River and Mott-Regent this season in D13, you sure seem pretty confident NE won't have any problems past Beulah. I wouldn't be so sure.

actually they played twice with NE winning them both, once by 9 and once by 4........... I guess HR didnt deserve to win, holding opponents to an average of 39 points for the district tournament......HR defense had nothing to do with NE "playing terrible"?...too many people watching highlights and sports center and just a few people left actually watching details..i guess however u want to perceive it Ditka

I know NE has beaten them twice. And I wouldn't be surprised if New England beat Beulah either, but I wouldn't say the region is gonna be decided by who wins the first-round game between Beulah and NE. Beulah has losses to Hazen and Trinity, and NE has losses to Mott-Regent, Heart River, Beulah and Trinity. To me, it's more likely that the winner of Dickinson Trinity-Mott-Regent wins the region title than Beulah-NE.

And I'm aware that NE "played with all of those teams." I'll go with my own bold statement: I would be shocked if D13 put a team in the Region 7 finals.

I think all 8 teams are capable of winning a game in the Region 7 tournament. My sense is that Killdeer doesn't quite have what it takes to win it all and Bowman County is young and perhaps a year away, but both are capable of winning a first round game. IMO any of the remaining six teams could win the tournament and I'd have trouble ranking them 1-6 because they'll all have such a tough road to the championship.

Ditka, your statement is either purely a 'hunch' on your part, or you have a rooting interest in the Tigers, or both... because nothing that has happened on the court this season would support labeling NE alongside Beulah as co-favorites ahead of Heart River, Mott-Regent, Trinity or Hazen. NE lost its most recent matchup to Heart River and has not defeated any of those other four teams.

Reason I say Beulah-NE winner goes is this.....

They both can beat Hazen (semis), they both can beat Trinity. Mott is going no where fast if you watched them at DSU. Heart River wont beat Trinity....Trinity has 2 wins to the title game....where they are less talented than either Beulah or NE. I agree....Bowman is a threat....next year.

Cougars....

If you have watched this district the last two years, you know who the better team is, and im from SOUTH HEART...I sat in Heart Rivers stands and listened to everyone gasp every time New England shot the ball, we caught them on the right night... If they played 10 more times, New England wins 8 or 9, thats just the honest truth. I cheered like heck watching HR win that title, good for them, but they arent better than NE, and they wont beat Trinity at home.

I realize both Beulah and NE have some losses, I've watched all the teams, IMO these two are the best. My opinion, sorry if you disagree.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but New England's core group has never beaten Beulah or Trinity in their career, correct? Both teams beat NE in last years regional and in this years regular season, I know that much.

Beulah is deeper and far more athletic than NE. NE could win, but I would say there is an equal chance that they lose by 15+.

0% chance they lose by 15+...If i'm wrong i'll eat my words. Last year in regionals they lost to Trinity I believe in o.t. Early this year when Beulah was running people over they played them close and ended up losing by 11 I believe, but it was closer than that until the last minute with free throws. They also lost to Trinity at the buzzer in the Roughrider tourney this year. They are every bit as athletic as Beulah is, if you don't think so you haven't seen them play. The reason I think they play them close is because they can handle their pressure, and N.E. won't take undisciplined shots. Depth obviously goes to the school with 250 kids in it, compared to the school with 50.

tournament games most coaches will only go 7-8 deep and they play the starters more if they need to. Depth is the most over-rated topic in basketball once you get to tournament play. Unless teams get into foul trouble they are going to play there best 5 as many minutes as possible.

I agree for the most part, except maybe in Beulah's case, because they play full court, trap everywhere, reach and foul, so depth for them is some what important, they really are an impressive group. They are really really good when a team struggles with their pressure and let's them get up and down. However when a team handles it (North Star for example) they are very beatable.

You are speaking of Hazen like they are a medicore ball club, they are very talented and have played very well this season, they both can beat trinity? Again making Trinity sound like a medicore ball club with that statement, you are writing off heart river a little quick in my opinion, obviously Heart River has proven with their showing in Dickinson that they are playing the best basketball of anyone in the district. I would say Heart River vs. Beulah for the title and beulah winning by 8.

do we really have to do this again ditka? Except this time I have more people that agree that new England isn't as good as you think they are. I agree new England is a good basketball team but the Beulah new England game is not "the championship game" I think they are the number 5 team in the region.

Mike Ditka- As certain as you are that New England is so outstanding it sounds like you should also be giving Region 5 some love. I know comparing scores is sketchy business but in this case it's about all we got. Didn't Shiloh beat New England by double digits? I think they also got a win against Hazen.

Anyone know if Shiloh played any other teams in the Region 7 tournament?

Yes they did...however they aren't playing in this region, and the topic is region predictions. They should have a pretty easy road to the title game in Region 5. Good for them, they are a good team.

Are you guys missing this...

Mike Ditka wrote:And I will take Beulah...In a fun one.

So those of you that say Beulah will beat Trinity or Heart River are agreeing with me, if NE beats Beulah I struggle believing that they will lose to Hazen.

Bison I have now watched Hazen play 4 times, not once have I came away overly impressed (Trinity game, both Beulah losses, and when they ran over Bowman) sorry but again, that's my opinion. Now lets not have another childish arguement like last time, I respect your opinion, you can respect mine. I do wish someone would hop on this darn Tiger bandwagon with me...I mean c'mon, they are the smallest school in the Region tourney by over a hundred kids, what do Beulah and Hazen have 250 kids each? New England has around 50 kids in the High School, and they aren't co-opped, there season is already impressive with that few of kids to choose from...why not root for the little guy in the most competitive region in the state. You guys hate Butler too? Gonzaga? George Mason? Just wondering?! Be open minded, stop giving me facts...I'm obviously just rooting for them, however, I do think it's a long shot, but so was Butler going to the title game two years in a row!

I'm not speaking of Hazen like they are mediocre, I'm saying Beulah and NE are better. Same thing I said before the season started when you said Hettinger would be really good. I realize they had an accident but before that accident they had blow out losses to good teams, Grafton? Or was it Berthold in that tourney championship they went to early on. Then also...NE beat them by 30, before their accident, but they must not be good, right?

Hettinger Scranton was really good, 7-4 before the accident, caught New England on a night when they shot the ball really well, got beat by a great Berthold team when H-S was playing their 3rd game in 3 nights, Lost to Faith, SD who will probably go to state down there and lost a game to Harding County when they were playing pretty good ball. IMO, and I honestly don't care if you share my opinion or not, Ben Laufer was/is the best player in the district. I've never said NE is not a good team, they are a very talented ball club. I'm not really sure if I appreciate the context in which you mentioned the accident, you have no idea what kind of effect that has on people. I know you tell everyone on here that you are from South Heart, but the way you talk about New England makes people think you are either someone involved with the team from New England or a NE fan. I hope that New England does make a run in the Regional Tournament, it would be nice to see our district do well. Ranking the teams in the regional I would say:

1. Beulah
2. Trinity
3. Heart River
4. Hazen
5. Mott
6. New England
7. Bowman County
8. Killdeer

This is just my opinion taking all factors of the game into account. Should be a fun week for Region 7 Basketball. Good Luck to all teams.

Very quickly I will respond and say that I certainly didn't intend to talk about that accident in a way that made it seemed I didn't care. We obviously both enjoy hoops but there are much more important things, like all of there lives that could have been taken in that accident. The way you took that, was not my intent.

Now...I am from South Heart, which really doesn't matter. H.R. is my 2nd favorite team around here, and I have seen NE and HR play great games against each other. I picked NE the beginning of the year, and I'm sticking with it. My connection, is I like their coach. I would say the order is...

1. Beulah
2. Trinity
3. New England
4. Heart River
5. Hazen
6. Bowman
7. Mott
8. Killdeer

Did you see Mott play in our district tourney Schwab...it was not pretty.

On a light note...your guys' radio announcer is the best ref on the sideline...of all time. (Hettinger radio)
