REGION 6 Tournamnet predictions.

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the region 6 tournament and how it will end up. I attended all the District 12 games this week in Minot. Got a pretty good feel on all the teams in that district. Berthold is by far the best team I've seen play all season. Watched then against some pretty good teams too(Bottineau, Velva, DLB twice, and Minot Ryan). They seem like they are playing their best ball right now. They are my pick to come out of Region 6. DLB has looked good also these last couple weeks. They gave North Star a run for their money and pounded Glenburn in the first round of district. They also defeated a good Minot Ryan team before getting beat by Berthold in the district championship game. Minot Ryan is the 3rd seed out og district 12. The Lions are tuff again this year. Always a contender. With a program like theirs you can never count them out. I really thought they would defeat DLB in the semis and play berthold for the championship. Didn't happen though. Look for them to upset Rugby in the opening round of regions and get another crack at DLB. Onto Glenburn. They will be the 4 seed out of district 12. They got pounded by DLB and hung on for a win against Surrey in the elimination game. They trailed Our Reedemeer's by 19 but some how found a way to win by 5. Couldn't believe that game. I don't look for Glenburn to do a thing in the region tournament. With that said......I wouldn't......I repeat I WOULD NOT! Want to play Glenburn right now. I don't know what was said to those boys at halftime of the ORCS game but they got a fire in their belly's that second half. Scary team to have to deal with.

I got Berthold over Ryan in the Final.
and Bottineau over DLB for 3rd and 4th

REGION 6 @ Minot Auditorium

D11 #1 Bottineau vs. D12 #4 Glenburn
D12 #2 Des Lacs-Burlington vs. D11 #3 Westhope-Newburg

D12 #1 Berthold vs. D11 #4 Dunseith
D11 #2 Rugby vs. D12 #3 Bishop Ryan

anyone else have any predictions.

With your prediction, Minot Ryan and berthold can't meet in the championship. And I'm sure rugby will take care of them first round. Rugby easily beat them in the regular season. Rugby vs berthold will a good second round match up. Should be an exciting region tournament!

the only close game i see in the first round is rugby and ryan. they played either the 1st or 2nd game of the year and rugby won by about 12 i think? Ryan didnt have their center playing in that game though and he is a decent player. either way it was so long ago that you cant really look at that game as an indicator.
other than that berthold, botno, and dlb should take care of business but ya never know.

have dlb and westhope played yet?

Rugby defeated Bishop Ryan 67-51 early in the season (first 5 games)

DL-B and W-N have not played yet.

Within the Region Tourney thread I plan on posting previous meetings between teams.

As Mags said, Decoteau was playing in his first game back from an ankle injury and saw limited minutes in the first matchup. Also, Bishop Ryan is a very young team who plays about 6 or 7 sophmores so they are not the same team they were at the start of the season. They also let Welk run wild for 26 and probably 10+ assists too. From the box scores I've seen, he hasn't scored near that much again all year. Certainly a good point guard, but I'm not expecting a repeat performance. Should be a good game, I see Ryan winning.

Yes - I thought that too. That's what they announced at the Dist. 11 tournament. Paper was wrong.

From what I've seen and heard throughout the year Berthold is the class of the region. They should win and win big. Bottineau and Rugby are at a level below Berthold. Either of those two might win if Berthold has a bad, bad night. The others have a very slight chance. However, it is tournament time and anything can happen. Just my 2 cents anyway.

I know Berthold beat bottineau big when they played earlier in the year, but berthold came out on fire right away to get the lead.I think berthold still wins if they meet agian, but i expect it to be much closer.

You guys are assuming Dunseith is the No. 3 and Westhope is the No. 4 because Dunseith was seeded higher in districts. But I believe that since Westhope beat Dunseith in the district tournament in the first round, Westhope gets the higher seed. Hence, they would play no. 2 seed DLB.

if in fact DLB plays dunseith, one could really agree that it would have been more beneficial for bethold to lose to dlb in that distric title game not?

Higher seed going into the district tournament gets the higher seed for the region tournament between the two teams that win the region qualifier games, doesn't matter whether they played in the district tournament or not.

Why? Are you looking at it from a match-up standpoint?

Correct - District 11 has always done it that way - or at least since they have got rid of the challenge game. District 12 does it using the head to head in the district tournament as criteria for region seeding. Confusing, isn't it?

OK - I hope it is a good game, I think the other three should all be decent games. Ryan is playing well, Glenburn can score in bunches, and Dunseith can be just plain scary at times - if they are all at the top of their game - it should make for some interesting 1st round match-ups.

Been to both nights of the games.

Berthold and Bottineau should be a good game on Thurs. Bott has a balance attack. Berthold has the height and better athletic so my nod goes to Berthold by 8. Bloms will have another big night, 25 pts. McCloud and St Coix will have 15 pts for the night, but they will need someone else to step up on Thurs to get them to the next step. If you like basketball don't miss this game and don't blink because both teams can move the ball up and down the court quickly.

DLB and Rugby will be playing for this title next year.

Rugby is real scrappy and fight until the end. Something I love to see in a team.

DLB, you could have been in the title shot this year if you hadn't started with all the 3 pt shooting in the 3rd qtr. If you would have drove it into the middle, it would have been different. Live by the 3, die by the 3.

I'm not sure Rugby will make it to the championship next year. It'll be between Rugby and Westhope-Newburg. I'll take Westhope with Hancock and Braaten. DL-B edges Ryan next year. I'll say DL-B beats Westhope in the final next year.

I'll say Ryan beats DLB in the title game next year. Rugby will be affected more than you know by the loss of Welk. McAtee is also a very good defender. Westhope will be alright but those two can't get them to the title by themselves. DLB will be very good but will literally have 3 kids on the roster who can score. They will score a lot, but I don't think it'll be enough. Can't forget about Berthold next year. They'll have some decent athletes back. Gunderson will be a pretty good big man when the team goes around him and he doesn't have the awkwardneess of playing with Dan. The Lee kid is only a freshmen and scores well. He'll be tough in future years.

Yeah, I think Tanner Holte puts DL-B over the top in the region. Remember, it's not as if DL-B is devoid of basketball players in their system. They're just young. Travis Johnson will step in and start, and Brett Johnson will probably start. They won't be as deep as Minot Ryan, but they have a better sophomore class with their big three. Westhope had five guys score at least 20 points in a game this season, so I'm not worried about others and they have decent depth.

But, I think I'll change my pick since you got me thinking Indy. I'll take DL-B over Ryan for the region title, but Westhope wins their district.

I think Berthold makes the region title game next year. This years jr class is pretty good. The one guard has been out for half the year with a broken hand and they have another good ball player out with a leg injury. Mix in the White kid with Austin Lee, they will be no slouch for any team. I can assure Gunderson will be more agile a year from now, with all the football camps and workouts he has planned to get ready for football. Going to be a fun and entertaining season of bball next year in the region.

Well I saw Westhope a couple of times and It appeared to me they had 3 kids that could score. Hancock, Braaten, Kitzman. I am pretty sure Kitzman graduates not sure on that. I didn't see any JV players that will step up next year either and they only go about 6 or 7 deep on varsity.

DLB will have the big three. Travis Johnson will be able to decently fill Knutson's role of the rebounder from this year. He won't be as good as Knutson though. He also won't defend like him either, as Knutson was their best perimeter defender. They will lack one of those next year. I don't know who Brett Johnson is but I watched their JV a couple times and I didn't see a kid on that roster that will be a decent 5th starter next year.
