While Central Cass has not played a particularly tough schedule so far and are now 5-0, it's important to note that they have yet to play a home game this season.

Four winds after watching them in DL tournament its hard to believe they lost to Dickinson at home. They were just playing at whole different level than other teams in the tournament. I know that quality of the teams is not at elite level but in each of three games with starting 5 beginning the game they so dominated play of the game both offensively and defensively having scores of 25 and 5; 24 and 3; and 30 and 10. They will be challenged in this region with like of Dunseith and St. Johns most likely will have to beat both of them to win the region. They will be number 1 and 2 seeds in district 8 and four winds will be number one seed from district 7.

Our Redeemer's has also not played a single home game this season. I think they only have four home games scheduled for the entire season. The rest are all either away or neutral sites.

I think MNS should enter the poll in the top 5, at a minimum, this week. Hard to determine how everything else shakes out with so many ranked/RV teams losing games, but it seems clear MNS is one of the best teams in the state..

Not sure I would put them in the top 5 just yet but I do believe they deserve to be in the poll. Beating everyone handily although Hankinson has been their toughest test. Lisbon is playing teams tough so is Maple Valley.

This is what makes the poll such a popular thing, trying to compare teams who have played 8 or more games with teams who have played 5 or less. Comparing teams that have ran the gauntlet early in the season, to teams that have loaded the end of the schedule. This is why people love class B basketball, because until that final buzzer sounds in March you just never know!

FW-M just ran through the Ramsey Co tourney by an average margin of victory of 45 points, beating the second best team in their district and an undefeated Larimore team by 50 in the championship. Add in their tough early season schedule I can't see them dropping in the poll. I think they move to 1. I also can't see MNS jumping into the poll at #2. Like Schwab said comparing teams based just on record this early in the season is tough. ORCS, DT, HS, etc have all had killer schedules while other teams are undefeated but have yet to play a tough team

There is one name in that list that I just don't understand, but the season will continue to unfold and they won't be there anymore, anyway.

Maybe I am way off and I am not looking to start a new topic. But, I don't think home court advantage means anything, except in very rare circumstances. I can only think of a couple, and games are not played in either gym anymore. I'll share one, Hillsboro. Years ago when they still played at the high school and were on a tile floor. It was a big deal not only because Hillsboro was very good, but because tile, (only tile in the region) was rare and teams came into the game ready to use the floor as an excuse for poor play. IMO Central Cass plays in a very sterile environment. Their only advantage occurs when they have a better team. I'm most familiar with regions 1 and 2. I don't think region 1 has a team with a true home court advantage. Oak Grove has crazy soft rims but both teams play with them. Maple Valley has refs from Valley City but both teams have to play with them :). In region 2, FSHP doesn't have an advantage with they play in Finley, but games (if played) in Hope and Page are in very small gyms which are a bit unique in the region. Griggs County's gym now has lights so you can see, but they still get Valley City officials.

I guess what I'm getting at is I don't think a home court is even worth a point. All the schools are playing at least in region 1 and 2 on wood floors (no more tile and tartan floors), with rectangular backboards supporting 10' rims. In my experience when a team is playing in a place where there is a good loud environment, it helps both teams.

In Region 3, Kidder County gym in Steele, ND has been referred to as a 14 point gym. If you are more than 14 points better than them talent wise, you should be ok but it is likely to be closer than expected. If you are not, it could be a long night.

For one to say there is no home court advantage, one would have to similarly accept that no home court advantage exists in any sport, i.e. pro football, basketball, basketball, etc. And if so, teams would be indifferent about playing at home or on the road. It's clearly a disadvantage, IMO, to play on the road, where you have fewer fans and unfamiliar surroundings, than to play at home. CC has 20 regular season games and of those, 6 are at home. Then, all tournament play for region 1 is at neutral courts.

When we say they haven't played a single home game, they might not have been in their actual HS gym. However, they play plenty games at the auditorium or dome every year that would be considered pretty darn close to "home." This is no different than other teams from that area. That's like saying because Minot High played in the auditorium that it wasn't a home game. No, not technically, but pretty close.

In Region 3 I would say that the Gopher Hole in Kulm is at least a 14 point gym if not more. Thank goodness this will be the last year for that gym.

I think there still is a home court advantage might not be as big as it once was. Region 2s Biggest home court advantage is in Crystal the atmosphere there is great, I'd give DVE a 10 spot in there.
