Grand Forks Central’s Caitlin Farroh was named as North Dakota’s Miss Basketball on Saturday, capping a senior year in which she averaged a double-double.

The 6-foot-1 center became the school’s first recipient of the award, given annually to the state’s top senior as determined by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

Farroh averaged 21 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and three steals. She shot 63 percent from the field.

Farroh received seven first-place votes and 47 points.

“It’s a really big honor,” Farroh said. “I feel really happy about it. It’s a huge achievement. It’s right up there with winning a state championship.”

That’s one accomplishment Farroh didn’t achieve. In fact, she made it to the state Class A tournament just once, this year.

“My favorite memory was beating Devils Lake at the (region) to go to state,” Farroh recalled. “I never cried so hard.”

She averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds a game to help the Knights take third place at the state tourney. But it was Farroh’s ability to rebound that set her apart.

“You always work hard and don’t think a ball is out of your reach,” Farroh said. “You have to have good hands and anticipation, but if don’t work hard, you still won’t get it.”

Farroh was one of seven finalists for the award.

Standing Rock guard Shauna Long was second in the voting with three first-place votes and 41 points. The 5-4 Long averaged 29 points, eight assists and six steals.

Meghan Roehrich, a 5-11 center from Fargo South, averaged 24 points, nine rebounds and three assists. She had one first-place vote and 14 points.

Brittney Dietz, a 5-10 guard-forward from Beach, averaged 16 points, six rebounds and three assists and steals. She had two first-place votes and 12 points.

Katie King, a 6-0 center, averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. She had a first-place vote and eight points.

Sasha Golus, a 5-10 center from Turtle Mountain Community High School, averaged 22 points, 14 rebounds and three steals and blocked shots.

Central Cass’ Taylor Kraft averaged 14 points, nine rebounds and three assists. She received one point in the voting.
