Who are your picks for all-East Region? I think there are 12 players. Shanley and Central are probably guaranteed at least two players based on season results.

South
Roehrich, Fisher

Devils Lake
Elshaug, Mertens

Shanley
Carew, Kenney (came on late)

North
Dehne, Larson

Davies
Moffet

Central
Farroh, Fee

Red River
Knecht or Ashe

West Region?

15 players on each side. I like all of your picks but add 3 more.

WDA.

BHS - Hruby/Rust
CHS - Jacobs/Govig
DHS - Herauf
JHS - McMillan/Dewald
MHS - Longtin/Pedersen
MHS - Johnson/Hankla
SMCHS - None
TMHS - Golus/Wallette
WHS - Lee/Clark

I would maybe switch Power with Hankla. But this is the list I will go with.

Shanley needs to get one more...either Weir or Storandt. I would say both Knecht and Ashe should make it but their record isn't good enough. The problem is both Central and Shanley play such a team game that they don't have superstars (besides the obvious: Farroh)...Maybe Red River gets two because of that.

In the end I think Central and Shanley both get three picks (it's a toss-up between who gets the third on each but I will go with Storandt because she is a senior, and Lindsay from Central) and both Knecht and Ashe are in.

Whoops. Can't forget Holland.

Shanley/Central definitely get 3 each. Storandt likely 3rd for Shanley- came back from not playing all last season to big contributor this one. That team is gonna be dangerous- gotta remember too that Kenney "came on late" after being injured first half of season. Best ball-handler/passer in state.
As for Central, Farroh (as I've been saying a lot recently) is my pick for best player, but without a good supporting cast that team wouldn't be playing that well. Look at Moffett on Davies- she could absolutely be a key post on a great team, just doesn't have enough around her. So I say central gets 3, and agree that it's Lindsay.

Does anyone know if Wahpeton or Valley City have a girl toiling in obscurity?

The only chance for Wahpeton to have a girl on the All-Regon team is Irwin.

Olstad from VC is pretty good.

problem is I just don't think Irwin or Olstad are good enough to knock a player from my list above.

I think Larson may be questionable. Especially since FNH has taken such a nose dive lately...but I still agree. I don't think teams with such poor records should get all conference.

Then again maybe Moffet comes off for that same reason?

I don't know if I noticed her any more than Irwin/Olstad.

I think Shanley may get stuck with only 2 EDC players because of their balance. If I had to choose one other I would go with Weir. I saw the two South games and Fischer couldn't do anything in either because of Weir's D. Just recently she had fantastic games in two tough EDC matchups against DL and Red River.

I don't know what happened to Williston this year, but they have players that should have made them good.

Central should have both Farroh and Fee. I don't think Linsday will make it. Storandt from Shanley is having a good year from what I have seen. She, Kenney and Carew I would think would make all conference. West Fargo - Holland and maybe Nelson?
RR - Asche and Ripplinger? or just one of those? I think Knecht's numbers will not be enough even though she is a good player.
Olstad is good but not good enough to be all conference yet this year.
Irwin should make it from Wahpeton. Why can't lower teams have kids who are all conference?

Is there usually 15 all conference players?

I agree that Irwin deserves a spot. This is an individual award and she is a good player on a bad team. I don't think such players get many all-conference nods though.

So is the point of All conference to honor the good players on good teams or to honor the good players in the conference?

And does anyone know how the process works?

Do the higher seeded teams get more players automatically?

Do the coaches discuss a bunch of names and then vote --or what?

2012 All-EDC Team

Sarah Schafer- Devils Lake
Taylor Hammer - GFC
Katelyn Olson - GFC
Ashley Knecht - GFRR
Ellie Ripplinger - GFRR
Jasmine Moffett - Davies
Kira Larson - FN
Anna Diederich - FS
Rachel Weir - Shanley
Jessica Anderson - Shanley
Allyson Suhr - VC
Tawny Irwin - Wahpeton
Lachelle Bumgarner - Wahpeton
Erin Krogh - WF
Lexi Lennon - WF

Pretty good list, but think Thorson, WF and Bolstad, Davies and Jacobson, Shanley earned a spot. Thorson was 2nd in pts and first in rebounds on the #1 EDC team. Top 10 in EDC in assists (2.5), FG % (49.6%), steals (2.9), 48% 3 pt% (35 attempts). Bolstad was Davies top scorer and top 10 in EDC in rebounding (6.2), assists - 3.8 , 3pt % (36.7), steals (2.7), 3 pts made (1.2). Jacobson was also in the top 10 in 5 out of the 9 stat categories and #1 3pt %. Can understand why Jacobson didn't make it, her team already had 2 players on the list and she is only an 8th grader, but still think she is one of the top 15 in EDC. Thorson and Bolstad belong in the list.

Agreed. I definitely think those 3 belonged on the list. Thorson also set her school single game scoring record this season. Also surprised that West Fargo only had 2 make the team and surprised that Davies only had 1.

Didn't mention the school record cause I thought All East Region determined before she set it. Agree, West Fargo has a great team and should have had 3 make the list - anxious to see how they do against the teams from the west at state. Wish I knew how they determine who makes the list, appears prior years' performance has something to do with it.

Coaches nominate players and then the coaches vote before the EDC tournament.
I think West Fargo should have 3 players. I think that Wahp having 2 is a joke when Davies only gets 1. Also I dont think South or VC should have any. Anyway, I think Bolstad is better than Moffet. I think that too many coaches vote politically trying to get their players on the list rather than actually voting for the 15 best players in the region.

Moffet is a good player and deserves to be on the list, Bolstad doesn't get the stats without Moffet. (3rd in EDC in assists due in large part to Moffet) Davies should have had 2 players on the list and West Fargo should have had 3 ... too bad politics between coaches keeps hard working talented girls from getting the recognition they deserve.
