Allot of people are asking about Hammer from Central. So here is the scoop.

She started having pain in her calves this summer playing ECI basketball. She went to the dr in July and had 6 wks of PT and was grounded from the gym until basketball season began. She felt pretty good for the first month and then started to have pain in her calves again. She has missed the last few games because of this problem.

She's been told she has compartment syndrome. Remedy is a Fasciotomy on both legs. She is going to Fargo on Monday Feb 2 for a second opinion before she has the 1st surgery which is tenatively scheduled for February 9th. She will then wait approximately 6 weeks and have surgery on the other leg. She is heartbroken, because she loves the game so much. She is confident she will be back next year and better than ever!

Hammer's second opinion was to hold off on surgery and go through more testing. Second doctor had complete opposite opinion of what is going on with the pain in her legs.
Sounds like there will be a slim chance she maybe able to play yet this year.

Obviously not having Hammer hurts a lot. However, I am really impressed on how Central has performed without her. They are starting to clear themselves as the clear cut number 2 team in the east. If there is a chance Hammer comes back, that might give the East 2 teams that no one from the west will want to see at state.

Doctor in Fargo told Hammer to give the rest of their season a shot. Hold off on surgery for now. Rumor is she is practicing today.
