I remember last year in Hockey, Jamestown vrs BHS when again they had some home cooking resulting in BHS suspension. I would read too much into a first game loss and the fouls being so lopsided. Take away 17 fouls and 15 freethrows and there is a much different game.

With that said, it does show that Mandan doesn't have near the bench they had in the past. Only 3 points from their bench. They definetly don't have the fire power they had in the past. While Jamestown had significant help off the bench. They are much deeper than Mandan.

I was thinking along the same lines when I read the box score. Hard to know if it was home cooking or if you just had some refs who actually called fouls on Mandan's press and weren't just intimidated by the "MANDAN" mystique. I'm not sure I agree on the benches being much different though. In the Jamestown paper it said their main 3 players scored 53 of the 66 points. Those 3 main players are very good though - Morgan Dale is as good a player as anyone and she commands a lot of defensive attention.

I agree, Mandan press can add more fouls but 29 to only 12 is a little excessive. It's easy to increase your shooting percentage if you can get a foul called 29 times. I think it actually hurts at team when it's so lopside because you don't get to see what you need to work on. There won't be an easy whistle when you are playing BHS or Mandan in the WDA or at home. 23 of Jamestown's 66 points were freethrows. That's 35% of your score.

Where are you getting your box score....This was in the Jamestown sun..

Mandan — ShanLee Taken Alive 15, Ali Collins 14, Marlee Finley 17, Skylie Luger 2, Paige Jensen 6, Brittaney Zander 2. Totals: 21-55 FG, 8-14 FT, Three-pointers: (Finley 4, Taken Alive 3), 24 Rebounds (Finley 7), 11 assists (Finley 4), 20 Turnovers, 22 Fouls.

Jamestown — Beth McMillan 2, Jenny Schuchard 14, Morgan Dale 22, Amber Ramlo 14, Kara Wahl 7, Leah Jystad 4. Totals: 22-45 FG, 22-30 FT, Three-pointers: (Schuchard 2, Wahl 1), 29 Rebounds (Dale 11), 20 assists (Dale 5), 24 Turnovers, 13 Fouls.

22 Fouls is really not that many...only one over double bonus each half...Mandan is not as big so are going to foul more down low than block shots...Maybe Mandan needs to be more aggressive offensively to get more free throw attempts...Looks like they were content with taking the outside shot...Probably also contributes to the discrepency in shooting percentage. Quit making excuses and say good game Jamestown, better luck next time Mandan...next time keep your hands off!!

WOW, take a pill. It was in the Bismarck Tribune. LooK  I'm not saying that Jamestown doesn't deserve to win. They have a very good team. I'm just saying that there is a lot of HOME COOKING when it comes to sports and I think it hurts a team in the long run. Remember BHS vrs Jamestown in Hockey. Fight broke out and there was suspensions. Remember BHS vrs Minot in soccer when BHS had 13 yellow/red cards to Minots 1 and the ref was a PARENT! What happened to these teams in the end! Its adults who are doing the cooking, not the kids. The Jamestown girls I sure played hard and well deserve their victory. Your missing the point.

ther was absolutley no homecooking going on... i aws at the gameand the refs were making the same calls both ways. There was some good calls by refs and then there were some bad calls for refs but all and all it was pretty fair

i also wuz at da game and i cant say i agree wit u overall the reffing wuznt horrible but many of the calls against collins at least 3 of the 5 were questionable and the last one wuz a very interesting call and i dont think it should have been called a charge

From what I have seen of Mandan's pressure defense they get by with a bunch of bumping and reaching in that some refs would call fouls. Sounds like the refs called fouls on this and Mandan didn't adjust.

Getting 4 offensive fouls still means Collins didn't adjust to the reffing. 4 offensive fouls by one person is very rare. I don't think I have ever been at a game that one player did that. She must have been trying so hard! But I guess adjust or sit.

I think Collins only had 3 offensive. 1 was on a rebound, 1 was on a loose ball and 3 were player controlled. I only saw the first half but on Collins 2nd foul, she took a dribble to the lane, crossed over with a backup step to shoot the jumper and Hornung just fell down. But as far as home cooking goes, Jamestown has nothing on the Bismarck schools. Either way it doesn't matter. Its the opening game of a 20 game season and what's going to matter is March. Both of these two teams will be there at state.

Oh, I agree that both the teams including BHS will make it to state. Home cooking happens in Mandan also. Let's not just pick on Jamestown. It happens in all sports. My point was that teams that have calls that are lopsided, especially early on, hurts them in the long run because it doesn't expose the areas you need to work on. You can bet Mandan will be making corrections but when they play again in the WDA, and the calls are closer, will Jamestown know where their weakness is?

I wasn't at the game but I heard that the final 2 charges, they were running side by side, then Hornung pulled Collins jersey and they fell sideways. ?? Who knows though, maybe Collins dipped her shoulder or used her elbow. I've never seen where one player has taken 5 charges in a game. Could happen but it's definetly rare. But that is only 5 of the 29 fouls. 29 - 12 = 17 difference in fouls and definetly can change or influence a game.

It just goes to show you that teams that set up wins early on will pay for it in the end :!: Collins was unbelievable this game. They did not have an answer for her or the rest of the Mandan team.
