I haven't heard much about girls basketball this year, and I was wondering what standouts are in the running for miss basketball?

Rebecca Feichert from Sheridan County I think will win it.

In addition to Feickert, you have to consider Sara Neubauer from Bottineau and Kayla Rogers from Mandan.

what about abby nasset from bowman. I attended a couple of her games and she really knows how to ball.

Neubauer and Feichert should be right up there. Not sure if Sara Sorbo from Adams-Edmore would be in the running, as well as Maria Weigelt from Wells County either. Both are great players and A-E is on their way to state with Sorbo the team leader.

I think you could probably put Abby Reiter from Hatton Northwood in that category. Probably won't win it but a finalist possibly.

How 'bout Region 3, Janell Huber has had an outstanding basketball career since she was in grade school. She is also going to Jamestown to play basketball i believe. Hopefully that will let her develop and move onto bigger and better things.

In Class A there are not very many great seniors this year, alot of good ones but not many standouts,    Seay from GF Central is the best senior in the EDC along with Bergan at Valley City but when you play on a team that went 0 - 20 its kind of hard to vote for her.... as far as the WDA Rogers from Mandan or La France from Century are the best seniors.  This may be the year a Class B player wins

I think Neubauer from Bottineau should have a shot.  The numbers she put up this year came from only about 20 minutes per game (21ppg, 8rpg, 4spg).   Only a handful of the games were close enough to justify any of the starters playing more than 20-25 minutes per game.  Just think of the numbers she could have had if she could have played the whole game.  She is definately going to leave some big shoes to fill in that program.

Boy I would think Feichert would get it going to the Jay Hawks of Kansas and all but who knows I guess.

If Feichert is indeed the best player in the state, then I hope she wins the award. But the mere fact that she's going to Kansas shouldn't be much of a factor. Kansas is currently only a few spots ahead of South Dakota State right now in the RPI rankings, and frankly I think UND is probably better than Kansas at present.

Good point. I din't know that about SDSU and Kansas. UND is straight cash right now, they could play with more than a handful of DI teams. As for the award. Neabauer could win in if she has a lights out State B. Otherwise it will be Feickert. I don't think any of the A girls have much of a shot.

Did they give the Miss Basketball Award tonight? Or will they do that next weekend after class A girls are done? Who won class B girls player of the year?

on an individual level, i think that janell huber had the best performance at the state b girls' tourney. she put in 20-plus points in every game, as well having no less than six rebounds or assists in a game (i think).

but i think that it is what she does when she doesn't have the ball that is most impressive. she is always moving, and always creating on the offensive side of the ball. her basketball i.q. is pretty much off the charts. and i don't think anyone in class b can set a better screen.

she probably won't win the award because of either class a bias or because of the recognition someone like neubauer gets with winning a state title, but i would take her on my team anyday.

it's hard to tell how good someone like feickert really is, because she was basically a one-person show, but i also think that regardless of talent surrounding a player, a miss basketball candidate, and a division I athlete, should be able to get her team out of the region tournament. huber did that.

Here are the five finalists: http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/sports/14052907.htm.

I think Seay has a pretty good shot. Outstanding numbers against a very difficult schedule.

Dominique Schuler will be a force to be reckoned with out of Shanley in 2007

Kielpinski will win Miss Basketball hands down!!  the career she has had is as good as any player ever to come out of ND... She will have won 4 state titles in a row after this season and was a dominant player all 4 years.  She is a legit D1 player and has already signed at New Mexico, a major D1 team.  If she doesnt get hurt she will win it going away!!
