How do you think Red River basketball is going to do next year? Could they be a sleeper?

Think losing Luke, Battle, and Thompson will be too much.

Losing about 85% of their scoring, it will be a hard year for them. 5th-7th place in the EDC.

South gave 74 pts to RR that nite (Dec 14th), but South's defense has been starting to hold teams down. They have held North to 52 pts, and Shanley to 55pts and South won both EDC games. That is the last game south allowed 70 points in a game. If South can hold teams down to mid 50's in scoring they will be a contender in the EDC. South team has alot of balance and ways to score. It will be interesting in game at RR on 1/28.

They need an offesive and defensive presence in the post. Schultz from North went for something like 28 points and 28 rebs. I hope they can pull off another upset vs. South.

They do need a big man. I highly doubt the Red River vs. South game will be close this time (in South's favor).
Red River has been majorly struggling lately. And even though the game is at Red River, it doesn't matter everyone will be at the hockey game.

I was at the game. South was frustrated with Red River's 2-3 zone.

South guards have been cold for three games now including Wahpeton. It's hard to beat a zone when no one can hit a jump shot. Other than Okland with 26, no other player scored more than 7 in the Wahpeton game.

The Red River boys are looking really good. I was impressed with their win over Shanley. Hockey may be king in but there are plenty of kids in GF who know how to play BB. Arvidson is a great player and makes things happen. Kroeplin is quick and Hanson is steady. Their post is getting better and stronger. I predict they make it to State this year.

You are proving that hockey is king with your post. Stating that rr might make state. I would bet right now the hockey team winning state over the bb team making state. Programs like bhs, chs, and mandan will consider it a dissapointing year if they don't win a state title. I don't see rr in the title game

I have not seen any teams from the West. I just commented that I thought RR would MAKE it to state not WIN state. Wow. Settle down, T$$!
Red River boys BB has had many good teams over the last few years and they have not even made it to state. But I think this year they will MAKE it to state. The East is very competitive again this year but I think they will make it to State.

And so what if "hockey is king" in GF? By that I meant that more focus and energy in GF goes into hockey but we still can and do have good BB teams. I personally like BB more than hockey but hockey does get more recognition in GF.

I am not hating on you, I am simply stating facts. If you are a good team you find a way to make the state class a tournament. The last good bb team in grand forks was when central won state in the 90s. The only decent bb played in gf is 1 weekend a year when the grand am is held. Best tournament in nd imo.

Wow so you watch a lot of bb in gf? But you also know all about the west too? How can that be?

One thing I know about RR basketball is this, if you try to over look them, they will kill you. They are always good player and they never stop playing when I've seen them play.

IMO ,people (GF people) just need to get behind them and support them. I'm speaking from when Minot played them, it seemed we had more fans then GF people and we had to travel over 3 hours thru bad weather to get there.

I didn't state that I have watched any gf teams this year. It isn't fair of me to judge rr as I haven't seen them play. However, the program has no track record of doing anything. I wish them luck and hope they prove me wrong.

Well then don't say that the only good BB in gf is the weekend of the grand am! How insulting to all of GF basketball players!! Central girls this year might disagree with you wholeheartedly as well as RR girls last year who were ranked # 1 going into the State tournament. They must have played some good basketball somewhere.

I totally agree that the Grand Am is a good tournament but some of that BB is not that "great" either! :)
I know old men who have played in that tournament who don't always look that great. :)

I have nothing against grand forks other than the weather. However, you cannot create an argument that any good basketball teams have come out of gf since central won in the mid 90s. Prove your point to me with facts and not emotions.

It is my opinion that you can have good basketball without actually winning the State Championship. I guess that is where you and I differ. For example, I think the teams that are in the top 4 of the State Tournament usually play some very good basektball. In Class A, they are usually very even and have usually beaten each other throughout the year.

It is not "emotions" that RR girls were ranked # 1 in the State last year.
It is not "emotions" that Central girls are # 1 in the EDC and # 2 in the State poll.
Somebody must have thought that they played "good basketball."
It is not "emotions" that RR boys beat Shanley this year (and I know Shanley was missing a player). That is good ball. But that is just my emotions speaking.
