Scheel over Shafer? Pederson, Startz and Baltezore in the top 20 over Gerszewski? No way. Seriously, when is the last time Scheel has beat Shafer? Paul ran low 4:20s this spring and Scheel didn't go to State.

Scheel over Shafer? Pederson, Startz and Baltezore in the top 20 over Gerszewski? No way. Seriously, when is the last time Scheel has beat Shafer? Paul ran low 4:20s this spring and Scheel didn't go to State.

A 5K is WAY different than the 1600 Meter Run! Scheel placed 11th at State XC last year...Shafer finished 23rd.

Also most of these are straight from how they ran at State last year (that's why its a PRESEASON list)...with a few exceptions (runners moving up a spot or two). You need to get your mind away from how kids performed during track.

Top 5 runners for each team are scored. Scores are done by adding up the Top 5 runners places (1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.). 6th runner's place is used for tiebreakers. Its pretty simple.

You do realize Mr. Shafer took second place at EDC before imploding at state right?

Well I hope he proves my PRESEASON list wrong...lots of things will change from this list (especially after the first two weeks of the season).

I'll be keeping an eye on how each team/runner performs so I'll continue to post things within this forum for us to debate (or maybe even agree on ) as the season progresses.

As you said earlier, you do not know much about cross country. Well one of the things about cross country is that people have bad races. Its just a common occurence. So no, it really doesn't mean he should be put lower at all. It simply means he had a bad race.

I would include Preston Lerew (soph-Bismarck High) Last year as a freshman
13th State XC and at state Track 8th 1600/7th 3200. He'll be in the mix.

I think I had him ranked 21st...but I agree he could move up

My statement had little to do with XC or track, but sports in general. If you collapse under pressure in one sport, you are more likely to do so in another.

One thing to remember about freshmen and sophomores at Bismarck that do really well is that they are training so hard and have done so well that there isn't much more time to drop. They will not run way faster than they did their breakout year. You can move runners from other teams up quite a bit, but not as much with the Bismarck kids.
