I'm not a follower of cross country, so I don't know which athletes are being talked about (names shouldn't be named anyway). Here is my take on it:
1. If this was indeed sent out to every program early in the year and the NDHSAA can verify that every team received it, I have no problem with it at all.
2. Hopefully every coach relayed this message to their athletes (I don't know a coach in any sport who doesn't care about kids, so I would assume they did.)
3. If the athletes decided to compete in this virtual race despite knowing that it was against the rules, than they should have to deal with the consequences. It's a very good life lesson.
