A Record Has Fallen!

Bismarck had won 78 straight Boys Cross Country meets in the State of North Dakota...today that record has ended!

New Town defeated Bismarck (and the rest of the field) at the Anderson/Stavn Invitational in Bismarck.

Details/Results tonight in the Meet Results Topic!

That was a great meet. Also at that meet was a 13:48 girl's 4K. Can't really compare cross country times, but I'm sure that Bismarck had a legitimate 4000 meter race. Does anyone know of a North Dakota prep girl ever running faster than what Mattie Shirley-Fairbairn ran on Friday? She also set the all time ND 3200 meter record last spring (10:33).

I know that Mattie Shirley-Fairbairn & Karly Ackley each ran a 13:58 & 13:57, respectively, last year at State on a tougher (more hills) course in Minot. As far as I know though, the 13:48 would likely be the fastest 4K time...since times are progressively getting faster each year. Pretty impressive in what is quite possibly the last year of girls running 4Ks.

Also to note...Jake Leingang (Bismarck) ran a 14:59 5K at State in 2011...which I'm pretty sure is the fastest boys 5K in the State.

That 2011 course in Fargo was short by quite a bit though (150-200 meters). Time across the board were too fast. Almost everybody ran significant pr's.

Agreed. However, I'm not a huge fan of XC records anyway, because every course is different and they change from year to year. At least on the track you know it's going to be flat and accurate every time.
