Who's going to be the team to beat?

Any big returning starters?

Well from the west it looks like Century.  They have quite a bit of starters back.

I would agree with CHS, BHS, but don't forget St Marys - the summer soccer teams had some awesome younger players from St Marys - Maybe not this year, but watch out - They're coming on!

In the East, I would guess Fargo N & Fargo S will once again be the teams to beat, based upon summer soccer experience.

I would say that South is the team to beat in the East.

Sportsman doesn't know anything. Minot is a good team. We'll see what happens.

Don't count bismarck high out.  They always seem to produce good teams year after year.

This will be a sad year

Since 1999, the CCSC Blast and the RRSC Hammers have been competing in summer tournaments and now the strong players who make up those teams will be graduating.

This has been a fun rivalry:duel:, being carried into the high school programs with CCSC Blast being leaders on CHS & BHS, and RRSC Hammers being the leaders on Fargo S & N.

Enjoy the season and remember it well.  These girls have been fun to watch. Thank you girls for the great soccer games.

How are the teams looking after a couple weeks of practice?  Any potential talent rising or coming back?

DL is not going to contend this year. very low numbers, no really skilled players. going to be another tough year.

north will have a lot of good seniors this year, more than 1/2 of their starters will be seniors.. they have sam johnson, sue obdermiller, erika swenson, emily gross, savannah heiser(goal), Erika Hovden, and Alex McCroskey -- all very good player- im guessing all starters, plus other seniors they'll have are Jess Arechigo, Janea Minar, and Kaitlyn Speral- all of those girls are seniors-- plus theyll have Kari McAllen, Chloe Shockman, and Kaira Henze which are all good juniors, and as far as sophmores and freshmen i dont know but they have all of those good upper classmen

Does anyone know about sophmores or freshmen?

south wont have that many seniors, they have Lindsey Wolsky, Kelsey Railing, Amanda Sigurdson, and Alex Zarling... and out of them the only one that will stick out as amazing will be alex zarling, they also have juniors that are very good

but north will deffinatly come out on top for the 2nd year in a row

After reading an article in the bismarck tribune this morning, I think century may contend as well.  LaFrance is playing again this year, and it mentioned something about 3 other girls returning that reached double-figures in scoring.

Bismarck teams better beware!  Mandan & Jamestown had huge wins against CHS & BHS.  Huge win for Mandan! No one is going to lie down and give you the games.  You have to win the games on the field.  See article about opening games.

I went to the mandan, century game and century looked like they needed a lot of things to work on if their planning on going to state.      ALOT!!!!

what was the score

1-0

I don't think they have to worry about making it to state.  If you read the paper, they only lost 3 seniors.  You are talking about a team that has won the west region title the last four years.  I don't think one game, let alone their first game, is a preview of their season.  Mandan took one shot and made it.  That's what is so different about soccer from many other sports.  You can maintain possession of the ball 74 of the 80 minutes and still lose.

Mandan did win, but by chance.  They aren't going to make it to state because they rely on packing it in and not letting the other team score.  That's okay from a defensive perspective, but if they don't score they are either going to tie or lose.  That's why they won't make it; they need to win more than one game.

great point.  i don't think any of the bismarck teams need to worry about not making state.  that 4th spot is up for grabs between the other 3.

Rachael Loomis was named Gatorade Player of the Year yesterday, http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=165140&section=Sports&freebie_check&CFID=33509241&CFTOKEN=31954607&jsessionid=883080a0f9f02d2c4457

I'm a little surprised that she won only being a junior.  Also I read on another message board that shes already committed to play at UND.

As far as how the spring is shaping up it, there seems to be three teams ahead of everyone else.  F. South, F. North, B. Century.

Any other thoughts on Girls Soccer?
