There was a meet in Velva yesterday. Garrison won it with a 343. It was the first meet for the region so scores weren't great.

Hazen is flat out tough. Brutal conditions tuesday. Beulah does not have that difficult of a course, but many of the scores were in the 90's with the exception of Hazen.

jared kautzman from new salem has won 5 of the last 7 tournaments he has played in. Beat marshall the other day, but marshall got revenge and posted a 71 the other day.

I posted 2 years ago about kautzman and his chances of being a region champ multiple times. he is a junior, and has the game. He is probably a better golfer during poor weather, so if the spring continues to be crappy, he has a legit shot. Hazen still the favorite though.

Taylor Erickson of E-K, Tyler Reisnauer of Ellendale, and Casey Colemer of NS should contend at the state tourny in Jamestown.

Is that the same Colemer kid that placed sixth at state last year?

Hazen dominated boys and girls region tournaments this year. Both are going to be hard to beat. Hazen girls are LOADED. All shoot in the 80's.

Hazen had 5 of the top 10 in the region. Marshall tore it up again wit a 73. Hazen won the team qualifier by 31 with a 303. Boman and Dickinson Trinity also made it.

Although I can't disagree with Hazen being the favorite, there are some other teams that might challenge them. Stanley for one, shot something like a 293 in one of their tourneys this year, and have been around that 310-315 mark all season. I think they will be a real contender and give Hazen a run. It all depends on who shows up to play, and who cracks under the pressure.

Sounds like a good weather forecast for next week. Could mean for some low scores.

Good luck to all the golfers.

I believe Stanley was the only team to even come close to the boys of Hazen. One shot away. It was early in the season, but you have to give them credit for coming close to beating them. You're right. We'll have to see who performs when it counts. Hopefully it will be good weather. The kids sure deserve to have a nice day to play.

Not to be harsh or anything, but some of those teams that were shooting in the 290's at the regional qualifer, played on a course that was 5500 yards and it was a par 68.. no offense but if you put those teams on a normal course, i can guarantee you they dont give hazen a run. you have to look at some of the other teams in state that are playing harder courses, and shooting under 320

speaking of under 320 on normal courses...Kindred and Oak Grove have been consistently under or around 320. Trust me...I'm not saying that they have a chance to beat Hazen on any normal day...but there still is a possibility (just not a good one)!!

Regional Tourney in Carrington (Sunny / Very Windy)
1.Kindred 308
2.Oak Grove 318
3.Carrington 320

1.Mark Adams (Kindred) 76 (Won in Playoff)
2.David Talley (Kindred) 76
3.Andrew Hokanson (Kindred) 76
4.Mitch Smith (Carrington) 76
5.Mike Rustvang (Oak Grove) 77

Need scores from the other Regions. Please post.

Kindred is the the most consistant team of the bunch.
Oak Grove can shoot low and I would not count them out.
Hazen is in a diffrent league thou

Franchise, how can you guarantee somebody wont give Hazen a run?? Stanley lost to them by one stroke in a tourney and both teams were playing the SAME course.

The Region 4 tourney was played at Souris, and the pins were all tipped. Not an easy course by any means. Scores were not real low, but the boys played some pretty good golf.

I think it will be an interesting state tournament, and the good players will shine. Hopefully it is'nt a runaway.

The thing about golf is, if you have ever played the game, that you can shoot lights out one day and the next day look like a complete beginner. So in golf, it is much more difficult to make predictions. But, I think Hazen will bring home both crowns this year. Their girls are all studs. The boy's have some good ones, but I don't consider them as tough in comparison to their girls. I don't think anybody comes close to the girls, but could make it interesting against the Hazen boy's. Marshall is peaking right now, so that is a good thing for them.

History has shown 2 things in Class B Golf

1. It is tough to repeat. (everyone expects Hazen to walk through this, it puts much added pressure on their team.

2. Seniors have a tendency to falter a little at state tournament. Again the pressure of this being their last time, makes them press a little more. ( may factor in on Marshall) If you look over the last 10 years, there has been more underclassmen winning.

I was'nt guaranting or predicting anything. You were. I'm just not ready to hand the title to anyone or guurantee who will win before they even tee off.

You have one bad shot or miss a few putts, and pretty soon you're frustrated and it can turn into a train wreck in a hurry.

Crappy weather today. Weathermen(plural since all of them predicted it wrong) really screwed up on the forecast for this one. Mostly sunny, 70's, little wind. Ha, upper 40's, cloudy, windy. Scores showed. Marshall is playing well as he scored an even par round. A whole slew of others are within 7 shots of taking second or taking 20th. If the day is nice tomorrow should be interesting. Jamestowns course is probably the goofiest course around. But, can easily be shot in the 60's. Hopefully the weather will be nice so the kids can shoot some good golf.

Hazen won both boys and girls. Marshall took medalist honors at the boys. Hazen girls did not have a top 10 finisher, yet took the team title. Was surprised as the Hazen girls all shot well, yet there were better individual scores. Piatz from Napolean won it in a playoff against a Kindred girl I believe.

Abby Knutson from Hatton Northwood was the girl that lost in the playoffs.
