I find it interesting that in region 2 no one picked the Park River team. I know nothing of their season record wise, but those girls played their hearts out last night. Maybe their not consistant, but if they play like they did last night in the next two games, they could be on their way to Minot. They let very few balls hit the floor, never giving up on any plays.

The Region 1 volleyball semifinals have been postponed because of a fire that broke out at Lidgerwood's school tonight while the teams were warming up.

Fire destroys two Lidgerwood Public School classrooms, forces postponement of volleyball tournament

LIDGERWOOD, N.D. – A fire that started shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday in the Lidgerwood Public School destroyed two classrooms and forced postponement of semifinal action at the state Class B Region 1 high school volleyball tournament.

The fire, which started in a room on the first floor of the school, was called in as an electrical fire by a janitor who tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher before it started spreading, said 1st Lt. Ron Haley of the Lidgerwood Fire Department.

The fire is essentially out, with firefighters doing mop-up.

In addition to the destroyed classrooms, Haley said there is significant smoke damage on the school’s first floor and some smoke damage on the second floor.

People who were in an activity center attached to the school were evacuated. No injuries were reported.

Officials plan to move the semi-finals and finals to Lisbon, with the semis rescheduled for Wednesday night at their original times of 6:00 p.m. The finals remain scheduled for Thursday. It was a hard-fought game... very fun to watch. Congrats Squirrels on the win and good luck tomorrow night against Kindred!

When was the last time ,if ever, that the team that won the Des Lacs tournament did not make it to state, I do not recall anyone, anybody else know?

The Squirrels - Warbird VB match would have made a great state title game. My hats off to the Squirrels they simply just made a few more plays. Congrats to the Warbirds on a GREAT season. Sorry it will end sooner than we had all hoped!

It's been a real close match. Hillsboro won 25-21 and 25-21, then PR-F-L won 25-21 and 25-23.
