The standings heading into the last week of the season:

GF Red River 14-2
Fargo South 13-3
Fargo Shanley 13-3
Fargo North 12-5
West Fargo 11-5
Fargo Davies 7-10
Wahpeton 5-11
Devils Lake 5-12
Valley City 2-16
GF Central 1-16

It looks like it will be tough for anyone to catch Red River for the #1 seed since they have a 1 game lead with 2 to play and hold the tie breaker over both South and Shanley. Red River and South both have two tough matches so Shanley still has a shot. Best games of the week: South at Shanley and Red River at North. Should be interesting.

If that is what you call Shanley domination. To me it looked like South couldnt pass at all that match. Defensively I thought South owned that part, but defence really isnt what wins volleyball. it is offense and Rotunda and carlson sparkle like a sparkler on a hot humid July 4th.

That Red river North game was a very good game. That number 10 for North must have had at least 20 kills.

I could have sworn I saw the head coach for Wisconsin - Pete Waite- there videotaping. He was sitting next to a lady who was wearing an Iowa State jacket who was filming also. I would assume they were there for that girl from North, but she's only a sophomore or junior. Were they possibly looking at Ashe from RR? I'm not sure any of these girls are Big ten material but I don't really know what they look at.

I wished i could of watched that game. Larson is very good, and athletic. Next year, she maybe hard to contain if she learns to hit at her peak. If she is really 6'3'' ;) , she could be a major D 1 player. She could easily be recruited to NDSu, but we all know she will be too good for NDSU (I would be very dissapointed if she choice NDSU even though I'm a bison fan) and will be recruited heavely from other major conferences if she putts big stats like that.

Fargo Shanley 8 - 2
West Fargo 6 - 1
GF Red River 6 - 2
Fargo North 6 - 2
Fargo South 6 - 2
Fargo Davies 4 - 2

Below are the records of the top 5 in the EDC since I started this thread.
Fargo Shanley 7- 1- Won last 4 matches - including wins over North and South
West Fargo 5- 6- Swept by Davies, Red River and South in their last 3 matches
GF Red River 9- 1- Won 6 in a row until losing to North on Thursday
Fargo South 8- 2- Won 5 of last 6 matches - losing to Shanley
Fargo North 7- 3- Won 11 of last 12 matches - losing to Shanley
Fargo Davies 4- 8- Lost 4 of their last 6 conference matches

Shanley, RR, South and North are all playing well going into the EDC tournament. West Fargo and Davies couldn't maintain their early success.

Any chance West Fargo or Davies pull an upset to make the EDC more interesting?

West fargo might have a chance to play it close, they were a top team when they had Becher. I have to point out that WF spends a lot of energy warming up. Davies, that is a stretch for a first round. RR Shanley, and South is virtually a tie for 1st, if South and RR game wasn't a 2pt.....Overall no they don't have a chance to advancing into semis, but will have a shot at getting to a state qualifying game.

yes that was Pete Waite from Wisconsin (he talked to Troy Cody, A.D. at North at the game) and the MB/recruiting coordinator coach from Iowa State both there to watch #10 Kira Larson from North. Nebraska's John Cook was there earlier this season. These coaches recruit sophomores. Juniors recruiting is almost too late - Very strange. Asche will go to UND. UND has already offered Larson.

For volleyball, junior recruiting is a little late for big programs who will generally require their players to enroll in school right after their high school graduation. That is the trend for basketball too. There are too many risks involved with waiting until their senior year.

The 2 pt. match situation raises an interesting point. Since not all teams played the same number of matches a direct comparison is difficult.

Standings below are based upon each match being a 1 point match.

Shanley 12- 3
GF RR 11- 3
South 11- 3
North 9- 5
West Fargo 7- 6
Davies 6- 8
Wapeton 5- 8
Devils Lake 5- 9
Valley City 1- 9
GF Central 1- 14

It is my understanding that you cannot talk to sophomores, only send them letters or talk to them if they visit the school. Sept. 1 of their junior year they can do more. Isn't that how it works for D-1?

Larson is getting to be a very good volleyball player. Her hair is at 6'3" but she is about 6'1" I would say. She is also a good track star so are there any track programs wanting her? Does she have a preference?

They can send out a brief questionnaire to show interest during the sophomore year. The student can call the coach but not vice versa.

According to the EDC web site the EDC tournament is at Red River and the WDA is at BHS. I thought the conference tournaments were usually at neutral sites. Getting the #1 seed and home court throughout the tournament seems to be a huge advantage. I think Red River was undefeated at home. Is this a change in policy? Last year's EDC was held at the Fargo Civic Center.

The tournament rotates between all schools in the EDC. A couple years ago it was at Devils Lake high school. Last year it was South's turn to host but the needed a different venue because there was school and there would have been a parking issue during the day. Next year, Shanley hosts and they will have the option of playing it at their school or at another site. I think that it is the same for the WDA

two other girls on norths team listed at 6-0, larson is easily three inches taller. I think her mom told me she is over 6-2.75 but had to round up on roster so it wouldn't look weird. Still growing too. Size 13 shoe.

Yes This is very true, most coaches are looking at sophomores even freshman. UofM just verballed a freshman!!! Most big named school arent looking at juniors and seniors by then its already to late for them.

Coaches are allowed to send questionnaires and thats it. The only way they can talk to you is you are on their campus.

And no larson is really 6'3" he hair could make her 6'5" haha. Other players on norths team are 6'0" and she is clearly 3 inches taller then them. From what i have heard coaches from around the country are interested in her for track as well as volleyball. Larson won state as an 8th grader in the high jump!!! And this year broke the record at 5'9".

From what I saw of that Kira, she has a long ways to go but she has so much room for growth in her game. I can see the high jump in her approach because she always goes off one foot, and I think that is a detriment to her hitting. She is 6-3 with a long reach, very athletic, and I think she can jump, but she hits everything down and gets blocked a ton. She is only a sophomore though so I'm sure she will. Her blocking is like trying to hit through a wall though. I think she's a great blocker and I'm sure she will improve her hitting, but hey who's going to complain about 30 kills, I certainly wouldn't.

Fargo North has some very good looking volleyball players. There record is very good but not impressive, but when watching that team they looked like they could be flat out dominant. They have some legitimate talent on that team. That tall rangy setter/hitter is very talented as well and a legitimate D2 prospect i think. Anyone know if this team is inconsistent? I have seen all the Class A teams a couple times now, and there isn't a team in the state that is as talented as Fargo north, in my opinion.

middles almost always jump off of one foot when doing the "slide". Being a high jumper that Larson girl really gets up high enough to hit over the block, that is if the set is high enough.
