State Rank Em'

Postby Run4Fun2009 » Wed Sep 09, 2009 6:34 am

I thought that it was interesting that the State of Minnesota ranked their VB teams in all 3 classes. So it got me thinking about how the State of North Dakota's rankings would look. Anyone have an opinion a Top Ten in Class B up to this point or a Top 5 in Class A; plz also include 1 or 2 teams for an honorable mention list at the bottom of your rankings.

I am going:

1. Century
2. North
3. RR
4. BHS
5. Shanley

Century is the favorite until they get beat and the Bismarck tournament does not count as they are best of 3 and teams are trying new things. North beating RR last night is big for them.

Not Stanley at #7, Kenmare handled them very easy in Hazen and at Stanley last night. I would suggest you put Our Redeemers in their place. Just an opinion. I believe it will be a big battle between Hazen and Kenmare, after seeing them in the Coal Tourney.

um...well I'll just state that Thompson is down from past years right now, Stanley isn't quite as good as last year, and Northern Cass will struggle this year...but otherwise its looks to be a decent poll...thanks for your input.

1)Century
2)Shanley
3)North
4)Red River
5)Bismarck

I think by year's end North is going to be tough. That freshmen and sophomore they have along with Angie Waller are good, big hitters. Waller is one of the better volleyball players I've seen in the state in recent years. Century IMHO looks like the team to beat right now but Fargo North has some serious growth for potential in some of those young players they have.

TLM beat Underwood pretty handily Tuesday night 3-1. Seemed like their coach was changing things up a bit this match...looked like she was trying some new things but the Trojans seemed to get the job done in spite of it. Other than the 1 set they lost, none of them were very close. This TLM team should walk through this region with mostly seniors with experience and some nice height in the front row but on any given night in VB especially, anything is possible.

I see Griggs County took Hatton-Northwood in 3 and they are 3-0 now. Honorable mention? Haven't even seen anyone up there play yet but just going by a score and a record. I think they're a pretty well coached program.

Kind of a weird post - didn't see much different in the way TLM played from last year strategy wise and two of the matches that TLM won were 25-22. Only first match was a blowout (25-14) and Underwoods match win was 25-18 (similar again). Think three teams will contend for this region - Center/Stanton, Underwood and TLM - but no one will walk through. Center isn't a power at the net like last year and both TLM and Underwood struggle some in the back row. Were you even at the game?

Both TL-M and Underwood played well at times then there were a few moments for each team where they did not. I wouldn't count out New Salem or Flasher just yet

Valley City is not that good and the games that I saw Wyndmere-Lidgerwood play they struggled BADLY!! Wyndmere-Lidgerwood is way over-rated on your board!! CC also beat Beulah pretty handedly yesterday...other than VC and W-L it doesn't look too bad.

Lets switch Beulah and Central Cass around. I watched Wyndmere-Lidgerwood and looked like they had a couple good hitters and the setter was pretty decent. Thanks for the discussion!

K...the switch could be made that's fine...Wyndmere-Lidgerwood is just too inconsistent to be rated high right now.

Yeah I was at the game. My bad about the score spread...guess your memory is a lot better than mine. First game score must have been dominating my thought process. As far as strategy I admit I don't know a lot about "volleyball rotaion" but it seems like they do a lot of subbing and the girls seem confused at times so i just wondered if they're still trying to find a good rotation...? I didn't see many games last year so if you're saying this is what they did then I believe you. I know vb has a lot of subbing as a sport but it seems like they sub in and out a lot more than other teams do. But I guess maybe it's working for them. They have a pretty good record so far.

I would agree with those redone rankings. I'd rank wyndmere-lidgerwood at #6--their loss to oak grove was a fluke IMO.
I think region 1 is again the toughest from top to bottom. Central Cass, Lisbon, Wyndmere-Lidgerwood are all tough. Kindred (very young), but a ton of promise if they can hit their stride.
I think Valley City has the potential to be alot tougher than they're getting credit for too. Early in the season you see weaker teams play with tougher ones. I think the reason for this is the difference in aggressiveness. Stronger teams are more aggressive and make more errors in the early parts of the season.

I'm just goin out on a limb here and gonna say that Hillsboro should at least get mentioned. I did watch their game tonight against Norman Country West (Minnesota), and overall they had a very good team. I guess I just have to wait and see until they play Hatton-Northwood.
