West Fargo lost almost everyone from last year. They will not be in the top 3 in the EDC. RR will be good and South will be okay if they find a consistent setter.

Fargo North and Red River will be strong, South should be good but there are questions at setter, West Fargo is always strong regardless of who they lose.

Here would be my predictions:

Region 1: Wyndmere-Lidgerwood--both schools have some talent coming back, and with a new co-op they should be tough (Lisbon--curious how they'll be without munkeby's leadership, FSHP, C. Cass, Kindred---could all make some noise)
Region 2: Hatton-Northwood (Thompson could knock teams off like always)
Region 3: Linton-HMB
Region 4: Langdon
Region 5: Center-Stanton (even though they lose kids to graduation, I don't think this region is tough enough to knock them off)
Region 6: Kenmare (maybe Our Redeemers)
Region 7: Hazen
Region 8: Stanley

Hatton-Northwood is head and shoulders above anybody in district 3 and in my opinion region 2. I think they are needing to come up with a new setter, other than that they should be lights out. With the line up they have, if the setter even gets it close, they should be fine. Thompson I am sure will have a good team also, but Hatton-Northwood is going to be a power house.

I do not think that Our Redeemers will be that much of a threat. The only player that really stood out to me on that team was Courtney Jacobsen. But I guess we'll have to wait until the season starts.

Region 4- Langdon will most definitely be the team to beat. North Star seems to always come with a strong program but falls apart come tournament time but still posses the capability to be Langdon's kryptonite. I don't know much about District 7 teams but as far as District 8 goes, here it is:
1.Langdon
2.North Star
3.Rolla/Rock Lake
4.Minn-Leeds
5.Adams-Edmore
6.St. John
7.Rollete

I think the 2-7 spots are up for grabs and its going to be a battle for each one. Who knows, maybe some teams will come out strong (GO CHUCKS!!!)

Red River will be very strong next year in the East. There is a lot of talent, and experience from steffen, stoley, asche, and evers. With these returners, they will no doubt be on top. Also in the east, south will regain strength and north may surprise people. Shanley had a young team last year so look out for them. However, west fargo lost a lot of their main players and will experience a rebuilding year.
As for the west, Century returns many of the players from their state championship team. They are big, athletic, and experienced. I would look for them and Red river to end up in the championship game, but time changes many things and I am sure many other teams will end up contending for the prize in the end.

The big question mark for Century in 2009 will be - Who will be the setter to set up the talented hitters for CHS? CHS returns Madi Buck, Alexis Jacobs, Carli Peterson for hitters, and Erika Jossart is back at Libero. Adding a couple off-side hitters and a couple of defensive players won't be too difficult, but the game runs through the setter. The loss of steady Tricia Sorenson and Hailee Walsh will be felt. Keep an eye on the situation as the season starts. :?:

Hazen and Kenmare will battle it out in Volleyball, Basketball and Golf in the 2009-2010 year. It should be really fun to see them play at the Hazen VB Tourney and in Kenmare on January 9th during the Basketball year.

Truthfully, Region 1 is totally up for grabs...anyone could win it!

yeah, i think you're right walkingstick. however, the teams i listed (IMO) are the 5 i think that would have the capability to put together 3 wins at the regional.

As for the state---I think Hazen, Kenmare, and Hatton-Northwood will be the big 3.

I don't know if there is a big relationship between success in the JO and high school seasons, but who were some of the top JO club teams last spring?

I don't think that matters. The club scene is a joke around ND and most of the top atheltes don't even play. I don't even think they really play USVBA.

I know in MN almost every HS team has a JO team and most athletes play in the spring and you can usually tell who is going to be good during the fall. VB pretty much has two seasons in MN.

I think all of the eastern class A schools have associated clubs and most of those clubs play in tournaments that include MN clubs. The only club I'm very familar with is the South Fargo one. I think all of the girls on the Fargo South JV and varisity rosters played on it, but I'm sure in other schools girls play soccer, softball, track, etc in the spring instead.

Back to the original question: does anybody know who were some of the successfull 17s and 18s teams? I think the south fargo 18s did OK. It sounds like Red River is the EDC favorite so it would be interesting to hear how their club (Stars?) did.

I know of many girls who play softball or run track and play JOs. West Fargo always has a team. I never saw their older girls play though. I've seen North's team many times too, although not this year.

Is the Stars mainly Red River girls? Because I know in the 2007 JO season Devin Trefz, Bagley (MN), played on their team. Trefz is playing at UND now. I'll try to find out how the Stars team did later today.

North Valley Juniors never lost a match this spring in 5 JO tournaments, but lost 2 games and one was to the Stars team. The girl I talked to said they were very good, with a strong middle.

No, the stars isn't just Red River girls. Girls from all over play for them, but mostly Red River girls because they're located in Grand Forks.
