Region 6 Velva DA vs. Region 7 Watford City 11:30

Region 4 Grafton vs. Region 5 Bottineau 35 min after

Region 2 May Port CG vs. Region 3 Dakota Pairie 4:30

Region 1 Kindred Richland vs. Region 8 Hettinger 35 min after

Velva - Two good pitchers plus and a good defence - Lacks hitting at times
Watford City - Don't know much, first timers
Grafton - Seems to put together a good team, i'll pick them because they have been there done that, if botno comes in loose, they could win
Bottineau - two good pitchers, strong region should help them at state
May Port -
Dakota Pairie - Might be the best team here,
Kindred - Seems like they beat some good teams to get to state, should be a solid team, first timer
Hettinger - Another team most would not know anything about, first timer

im picking velva to win it all. biggest strength is a great defense. barely ever make errors and if they do someone makes a play to get around it

Mayport CG is playing its best ball right now. Midway Minto slaughtered them by 13 the first game of the year and the last week of the season came back and beat MM 3 times. Coach Nygard was definitely deserving of the Region coach of the year as they came in as #3 seed but were playing like a #1 seed the last half of the season. 3 solid pitchers in Ust, Ingrebetson, and Rygg. Ust hit close to .600 with 4 or 5 bombs and an ERA around 1.40. I did not hear final numbers on him but it was somewhere around that. They have the pitching depth to win it.

I think it is pretty wide open for the favorite. Congrats to Hettinger, Kindred, and WC on making their first state appearance. Hopefully the success of Hettinger and WC out west will help encourage other schools to start HS programs.

Velva-Watford City could be the game of the tournament. Both are VERY good teams. Both teams have 2 really good pitchers. Velva has Brunner and Mack and Watford City has Jacobson and Rolfson. If they throw thier top pitchers like I think they will we should see a great matchup between Brunner and Jacobson.

I have heard from several source that it will be Mack vs Rolfson on the mound for that game

Well that will still be a really good matchup. Expect a low score.

With this weather all the games could be affected. No practice outside. Sounds like rain on Thursday and Friday. Could see shortened games. Not the best for a good state tournament.

Grafton's all alone this year, they are fortunate to be there......... they squeaked by Edinburg- Valley -Drayton- St.Thomas (by 1 run) to get to State.

They went to a 3rd game and it listed both teams because it wasnt decided yet who was advancing and not referring to half of NE ND as one team.

Kindred-Richland 20, MPCG 1, 5 innings

Unlike the first semifinal of the day, there was no suspense in the finale.

Kindred-Richland erupted for 17 runs in the first three innings on the way to a 20-1 victory over MPCG. The game ended after 4½ innings because of the 10-run rule.

The Vikings pounded out 15 hits, drew seven walks, had one batter hit by a pitch, and were the beneficiaries of four MPCG errors.

"It was just one of those games where everything went right for us and everything went wrong for the other team," said K-R junior Austin Dahlgren, who went 3-for-5 with a triple and five runs batted in. "I didn't expect this at all. We're capable of this, but I didn't expect it to happen in a state tournament game."

MPCG was the first to score in this one, getting a run-scoring triple from Tyler Ust in the top of the first inning. From there, it was all Vikings.

Nick Milbrandt, Dahlgren and Casey Reinke each had an RBI single in K-R's four-run first inning.

One frame later, Dahlgren and Ben Becher had two-run singles as the Vikings put six runs on the board.

K-R's seven-run third was highlighted by Dahlgren's two-run triple, Sean Cose's two-run single, and Daniel Julson's RBI single.

Cose, Julson and Jason Van Horn each had a run-scoring single in the fourth.

"We fed off the energy," Dahlgren said. "We got on a roll early and took control of the game."

Kindred-Richland is seeking its first baseball state championship tonight.

"It's been a great year, and a great run," Dahlgren said. "We have a chance to do something no other Kindred or Richland baseball team has ever done before. We'll be ready to go."

MPCG 100 00 - 1 2 4
K-R 467 3x - 20 15 0

Tyler Ust, Nick Rygg (2), Jordan Hanson (3) and Hunter Torgeson. Sean Cose, Daniel Julson (4) and Jason Van Horn. W - Cose. L - Rygg. HR - None.

Highlights: MPCG - Tyler Ust 1-for-2, triple, RBI. Hunter Torgeson 1-for-2. K-R - Austin Dahlgren 3-for-5, triple, 3 R, 5 RBIs. Julson 3-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBIs. Casey Reinke 2-for-2, 2 R, RBI. Ben Becher 2-for-3, R, 2 RBIs. Sean Cose 2-for-3, 3 R, 3 RBIs, 3 IP, ER, 2 H. Nick Milbrandt 1-for-3, R, RBI. Van Horn 1-for-2, 2 RBIs. Alex Shields 1-for-3, 2 R.

Records: K-R 13-9-1, MPCG 11-7.
