204 pitches?

204 pitches?

Postby wolfstanson » Wed Jun 03, 2009 10:21 am

Linking a herald article (I think that's ok) where a high school player in Minnesota threw 201 pitches in 13 innings in one game. The pitcher for the other team went 11 innings and 204 pitches. They make it out to be a feel good story, but isn't it a bit reckless to have these kids throwing that many innings and pitches?

When we played against TLM this year their pitcher threw 150 pitches and then caught the next game. I found that to be slightly ridiculous.

In 05 Dakota Prairie, and the opponent slips my mind, but in the first round the game went something like 11-12 innings and both starters went the whole way. Not sure on the pitch count, but the innings were ridiculous.

I still think they should use a pitch count rule instead of innings when it comes ot tournaments. I dont tihnk its fair that a kid goes out and throws a 7 pitch inning but only has the same amount of eligability left as a guy who jus threw a 30 pitch inning.

04 comes to mind too. Matt Bakkum for Steele used up all his innings and had to be pulled in the 9th innning of the title game, his pitch count for the tourney was around 130. Trenbeath threw 9 innings for Cavalier in the title game with a pitch count of 180+.

The DP and Velva game is the won that went into 12 innings. Velva won 6-5. Cody Anderson threw all 12 for DP and Michael Morey threw 10 for Velva then was relieved by Travis Bruner in the 10th.

thats right. I just remember every inning after the 8 and they would run to the mound me and my buddies would look at each other and wonder how much longer he could go. I like what the DP coach did and put anderson at 1st the next day. not sure if that was his normal position, but probably the best one to put him at after throwing that many pitches.

The pitcher "Dice K" for the Boston Red Sox once threw 260 pitches in 18 innings. This was when he was pitching in Japan.
