I think that everyone is forgetting the purpose of this post. I see a bunch of people listing players they feel are very good, but this is the 21st Century team! There is a reason this was started on the Class A section. There is much more coverage and teams know much more about all of the players. The class B section is so bias. I have seen people naming off 7 or 8 players from the same team. I know that these teams such as Thompson are consistently good, but lets be realistic. Maybe if we put together the best players from each region and go from there we can narrow it down. Just my opinion

while i agree about the situation of just naming numerous people off of several teams, i do think you have to keep in mind that since 2000 thompson, beulah, and probably hope finley have had very dominant programs....also keep in mind the talent that came from those teams and what they were able to do at the next level. just a thought.

Im not saying these guys should be on the team but just a few that i played against that were pretty good.

Brady Burchill
Matt Bakkum
Casey Krush
Jordan Huettl?
Brady Trenbeath
Zach Schaeffer

again, not making an argeument that they should be on the list of best players in the last 10 years. just a few names that i remember playing against that could change a game.

Early 2000's throw Midway-Minto into that same category. 2000 State Legion Champs winnning their final 15 games, did not alow a run in the district tournament and were clearly the best team in the state defeating second place Munich 5 of 7 times and winning all 5 tournaments they played in. 2001 had arguably equally as good a team but after going 20-0 in the past two years in league play (including Cavalier and Grafton) they self distructed in the district tournament largely do to injuries and illness. Righted the ship in 2002 and took 3rd at state. Were region runner ups i believe in 2003, and 2004 to Grafton.

The top players over that stretch
Brett Narloch- LHP/CF- 100Ks the summer of 2000- Tried to pitch at UND but arm injuries forced him to quit.
David Skogen- RHP/1B- 8-0 in 2000 on the mound. 2 year starting pitcher at Valley City State setting a school record for decisions in a season as a weekend starter and closer in 2005.
David Schneck- CF/LHP- 2000-2002 #3 hitter in the lineup. 3 year starter at Mayville State in the outfield. All-DAC selection.
Kris Moen- 1B- 2001-2002 Clean up hitter. Hit .600 with 10 Home Runs senior year. Tried to walk on at NDSU.
Derek Muir- 8-0 in 2000 on the mound (and didnt even pitch an inning at state). 2001 Region 2 high school player of the year.

Other great players I remember from the Region and state at that time 2000-2003 that have not been mentioned.
Derek Flanagan- Munich (Mayville State??)
Adam Worth- Munich (Mayville State)
Kellen Arneson- Langdon
Matt Kemp- Cavalier (has pitched for 3 teams in the Northern League)
Wayne Martin- Cavalier (85-86 with a loose arm. Starter at Fergus Falls CC)
Chad Amidon- Cavalier (Played at Muscateen JC in Iowa)
Lucier- Cavlier (already mentioned, Played at DeMoines Area CC)
Jacorian Goldmann- Beulah (already mentioned, platoon starter at 2B as a freshman at NDSU hitting around .250 their first year of DI)
Valdy Magstad- Beulah (RHP/3B went to Northern State)
Chris Hills- Fairmont (Mayville State)

Need help with names on two players from Sawyer Surrey. The one was a right hand hitter that hit 25 HRs in homer friendly Surrey who played the outfield. Was an All-DAC selection at Minot State and I believed played football there as well. The other was a large power hitting lefty. Not sure if he played anywhere after HS.

From the Thompson list you missed the most deadly hitter of that whole list i feel. Brian Myers. I believe grades were an issue often but during the legion season he had one of if not the quickest bat during that whole period. Ask most pitchers from around the area that faced Thompson and they would say they feared him most. I think Fluger (Boespflug) would even agree he wasn't the best player to come out of Thompson at that time. :P He could pitch but not the best hitter.

from what i remember playing in the early 2000s, and playing against all these teams, the players that stood out to me where as follows. and again probably not all of them would be on the team, but had a great impact on very very good programs.
thompson: cooley, brian schumacer, and robinson
midway/minto: the catcher
may/port: andy ziegler, mickey berry
hope-finley: brady birchell,joel mitchell
beulah- goldaman, lawson, magstad
carrington- gavin black
harvey- rocky redding
those are just some that i remember from good programs from the early 2000s

If you look in some of last springs topics, you can find his stats. ERA, batting average, steals are all impressive. He gets my vote.

I agree with Kyle Carr (Linton). He has to be the #1 person as pitcher. He is in the starting rotation this year as a pitcher for the MN Gophers. He will be up for the draft since it is his junior year there. He stands an excellent chance of getting drafted. An FYI for you guys who are pitchers. . . I talked to Kyle last summer and he said the best pitcher for the Gophers in the 2007 season threw about 84mph consistently. What made him so good was his control and his change up.

I personally think that Brady Burchill from Hope-Page is the best player I have ever played against. I think he went to 2 years at Iowa Western, was their MVP pitcher back to back years. Then went to Old Diminion, a D1 school to pitch. Should be a senior this year.
