Anyone know the records of these teams? I would be interested in seeing if there are some big discrepancies in games played due to our horrible weather this spring.

from NDHSAA web site:

CC 17-2
Thompson 16-2
NS 8-0
LMM 14-1
Surrey 14-4
Langdon 14-2
Beulah 13-8
Des Lacs 15-3

with possible errors/omissions by NDHSAA and myself.

I'm going with the only undefeated team remaining.

I need some reasoning on seeding. North Star went to state last year. They are the current State Babe Ruth Champions. They are undefeated going into the state tournament. However, the powers that be couldn’t seed them in top 5? Something doesn’t add up. Well, 1 junior and all the rest younger. Maybe next year.

I would assume, rightly or wrongly, that it was partly due to the limited games played.

I was so surprised by this as well. I thought the first 4 seeds were fine but Beulah getting 5 seed shocked me. I really don’t understand it.

Thanks for looking these up for us! I am a bit shocked to see a team in the State Tournament after only playing 8 games, even with the horrible weather this spring. I am assuming they played at least 3 games in their Regional Tournament so they only played 5 regular season games - that surprises me.

I agree. Hard to argue against first 4 seeds. All quality teams and programs.

Yes, only 5 regular season games. Played each team in region once. TBH, were lucky to get some of those games in. They tried to find some other games but seemed all teams were scrambling to get games in and finding fields playable up here this spring was a challenge.

This is not a slam towards anyone but due to this weird scheduling issue with North Star, they got screwed with where they were placed. And also Thompson did too. My vote would have been
#1 LMM
#2 Thompson
#3 Cass
#4 and 5 North Star and Langdon

IMO the coaches got it right, if you can't get 10 games including your region tourney you haven't had a big enough sample size to be seeded, unless you went and beat 4-5 other teams in the tournament. BUT they still get the chance to prove it not like it prevented them from the tournament.

Semifinals:

Thompson v DLB
LLM v Langdon

I see Thompson and LaMoure in the Championship and I will take LaMoure to win it all.

Coaches do the rankings...so my guess is several didn't rank them high with only 8 games.

Shocked that Beulah was ranked though

baseball is a high variance game, but Beulah is now in the 7/8 place game.

After the fact, it's easier to say it was right or wrong. My only point is winning the first game at any state tourney is the key. Once you get the first win under your belt and confidence built, it can take you a long way. North Star has played opening round 2 years in a row against the eventual state champ. Unlucky draws of course. Young team and without a doubt lack of games hurt them in more ways than just seeding. Hopefully a learning experience and can get there again in next 2 years. Congrats to all teams for making state and to Thompson for winning State Championship. Solid program.

Can't disagree with you on the aspect of the draw, first round you are going to get the best pitcher USUALLY. But you've been here twice, you know your teams potential and there is no excuse for not getting games in to get rated, get down to enderlin for their tournament, shiloh has an invite, there are games to get into, it requires travel BUT north star has been known in other sports to play the best. Coaches or AD (whoever does their non region schedule) needs to make the calls.

Central Cass athletic booster club is starting a campaign for $250K, I believe, to put turf on their baseball field. It is expected to be a 5 year campaign.

I thought I had heard that they had most of the 1.1 million dollar project raised already. I don't know what the 250K is for. Maybe this is to finish it off or something like that.

It appears that the new money is for the baseball field, while the $1.1M was spent putting turf on the football field and softball field a couple of years ago. Also, the running track was improved at that time.
