Short Season

Short Season

The baseball season looks to be very abbreviated season now with our region only going to play one region game and still play one jv game. That will put games played at less than 10 for season before regional play. It sure favors experienced teams and ones that have one or two dominant pitchers. Its just been a bad deal with weather this year and ndhsaa not extending the season out. Its too bad we don't have some facility here in North Dakota to be able to play inside that could be used by highschools and colleges here.

I wouldn't say it favors the team with a dominant pitcher. I think it hurts that team and favors the team with a deep staff. In a normal year, your ace can throw over half your games cause they're spaced out. This year, when they are all in two weeks, they'll only be able to throw 4 or 5 games.

It will this year with our region only having 6 games to determine region rankings spread out over this week and next two weeks. It pretty much ensures that your going to face the top pitcher from each of teams for regional games. If your one of the two top teams in region its possible to get by with mimum of three games to win the region a team with two good pitchers has pretty good chance to advance while lower seeds will have used up their pitching trying to get to championship game. Also for less experienced team there's less chance to improve as team and get better with so few games in this season.

Its just the way it is this year because of year and weather we experienced. It was just this past week that kids even got to go outside and play baseball on field up in our area. Hard to develop baseball skills when your practicing in gym all time not like being outside and working on fundamentals and get into game playing shape.
