Late Spring

Late Spring

Postby B-oldtimer » Sat Mar 16, 2013 5:40 pm

The way it looks NE North DAkota and Northern tier of North Dakota its going to be much later start for this year to baseball. Here in NE North Dakota we go any wheres from 20 inches of snow to 35 inches of snow on the ground and more forecaste for the coming week. Also two week forecaste is for below normal temperatures and above precipatation so probalbly more snow. I would guess if everything went perfectly it would be three to four weeks before conditons would be fit for baseball. This sure put teams behind in development this spring.

I used to Coach Rugby Baseball when we first had HS Baseball, starting in '96. We always were behind the southern teams, even those teams in Minot and west of there, so we HAD to make the indoor practices count!! Especially with the pitchers.

What are the field conditions looking like around the state? I know most of the east teams are still a couple weeks away. What about out west?

I saw Hettinger had a game already so far this year. I would have to imagine from Bismarck to Dickinson and southward are possibly going to get games in next week.

How about Like west of Jamestown and west of Harvery possible to start playing games there in the next week? Here in NE Nd some of the towns have blown off the fields but still ways to go before its going to be fit to play baseball. Going to be awfull short condensed season if this weather doesn't break soon.

More snow in the west will put a halt to baseball games for probably a week. Hettinger is the only team I know of to get a game in so far.

Still plenty of snow and ice to melt in north central ND and the 10-day forecast through April 18th dosen't have a high temperature above 38-degrees.

With the weather we are having this spring I am really glad I am not an AD having to try and figure out track, golf and baseball schedules! Hopefully we can get at least 5 weeks of competition in.

Southwestern ND was looking prime, until we got the last snow/ice/slush crap.

Heard Bottineau doesn't think they'll get to play at home at all because of all the snow up there.

Well looks like the Eastern Half of the state will be at least another 2-3 weeks until the snow is gone (if we're lucky)
