Surprises

Are there any teams that have been an early surprise this season?

Devils Lake wont be a push-over this year. With a 5-3 overall record and the latest sweep of West Fargo, they shouldnt be looked over by any teams this year in the east. They showed they could win big and even win the close ones with the last game in the twinbill with West and the W over South.

Mandan being 5-1 and Bismarck 1-5 in the WDA is a surprise.

I actually saw him throw the other day. Velocity is about the same, maybe a little higher. His curve has really improved and he still has a solid change up. He is the perfect example of what a pitcher is capable of when he hits his spots on a regular basis.

I believe he led the EDC in era last year though, so I'm not completely surprised. His record didn't reflect it though, because it seemed he never had good defensive play behind him.

shanley looks good this year, surprised me. also north sweeping south today, both being conference games. only 1 hit in two games? larson had a no hitter in the first game. east is wide open this year

Central beating North is a fairly big upset, which proved they have the potential to be very competitive with everyone going down the stretch. Matchup against RR Thursday should be a good one.

Besides the grand slam in the first game central was in line for the sweep last night. Credit given to North for battling back after being down. I have to wonder how deep North pitching is though, 2 solid starters will be pulling the weight.

Central just forfeited that win against north so no upset there

Riopelle threw 16 innings in a 7 day period, rules allow 14 in 7 days

If I remember right he threw nine combined innings in both games against North and had thrown 7 innings earlier in the week against maybe Shanley? Somebody will prolly need to confirm this

I'm willing to bet that teams would normally look the other way, but 23 innings in 8 days is quite ridiculous.

Riopelle is going to be 100% burnt out by the time EDC rolls around...

I'm more inclined to think North didn't "look the other way", not because they were concerned for Riopelle, but because they got beat.

id be willing to bet they didnt even know he had thrown too many innings. thats not fargo north baseball anyways to want a cheap win like that.

Yes it is a cheap win, but any coach in the league would have, and should have done the same thing for two reasons.

1.It will get you another win.

2.You owe it to the pitcher that was in violation to protect his arm, and enforcing the forfiet rule is a deterent to it happening again.

The rule is there for a reason and all coaches should see that it is enforced. In this case it was a rookie coaching mistake from a coach with very high standards for his players. McNamara would never have violated the rule intentionally.
