Shanley gets split at Duluth tourney

DULUTH, Minn. – Eric Jagim and Ben Sand each had two hits as Fargo Shanley earned a victory against Duluth Denfeld 6-5 in the Deacons’ opening game of the Duluth tournament. Shanley used wood bats, while Duluth Denfeld used metal bats. The Deacons lost their second game 5-4 to Northwestern (Wis.), which used wood bats supplied by Fargo Shanley. Justin Nelson, Evan Wolff and Nick Steidl each had two hits for the Deacons.  Fargo Shanley (14-12) faces Duluth Central at 10 a.m. today and Silver Bay (Minn.) at 4 p.m. today in tournament action.

South, North fall at Bemidji tourney

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Fargo South dropped a high school baseball game against Bemidji 2-0 after the game was called in the sixth inning Friday of the Des Sagedahl Memorial Tournament due to lightning.  South’s Erik Sorenson gave up two runs on two hits and struck out seven in five-plus innings.  The Bruins (16-7) face Fargo North and Duluth East at the tournament today.  Fargo North’s seventh-inning rally came up short as the Spartans lost to Duluth East 5-4.  Corey Shelton went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Spartans. Sam Hirchert went 1-for-2 with an RBI.  Fargo North continues tournament play today.

Noteworthy:  Kreis had no-hitter until one out in the seventh, and finished game with 12 Ks, 2 walks, and one hit allowed. 

Wahpeton scored one run in the 7th on a walk, stolen base, and a single to tie game.  Kreis left the game after 7.  Wahpeton scored winning run in the 8th.  Central only had two hits in the game.

Central lost 6 conference games by one run this year.
