I find it ironic that in 3 major sports BB, Football, and Soccer, it has been a BHS vs CHS final. I credit Jim Haussler. What is up with the Fargo schools? Show up! I give Mandan credit for representing. Grand forks dominates in hockey as well

Not ironic at all. Bismarck High is typically always in the final. Century should have been in football before now but finally cracked the code tonight. Mandan has phenomenal athletes, and great kids (Coyle, Janz, Westby) from what I've heard, what not cool for Mandan is where do they go from here, in football at least. Not sure how much credit Haussler deserves, I'd credit the kids and coaches specifically in that sport. The east was atrocious this year in football but it cycles, everyone has down years. Next weekend should be exciting! And can't wait for basketball season in the west

Bismarck wins because they have better players and more experienced big game coaches

It will be a good game. Either way, both teams have great players and both teams are winners no matter what the score. However, one team has to win and I think BHS will take it by it by 6 points.

I'm happy to go to Fargo and watch the two Bismarck teams battle it out. Has this ever happened?

I am cheering for the Demons, so GO DEMONS!!!!

BHS MUST be favored in this game. If anyone remembers the Mandan vs. CHS game- CHS basically intentionally tried to not score at the end to AVOID playing BHS. In my mind, that is bascially already conceding that they are better and sends a bad message to your players. CHS is thrilled to be in the Title game and BHS has the mentality that 2nd place isn't good enough.

I don't think CHS was intenting to avoid playing BHS, it was just a smarter move to have a higher chance of getting to the championship game.

I am sure Century's coaches, and most coaches in general, would prefer to play against the best team on the championship night instead of on the semifinal night.

I do think Bismarck wins.

I pick Bismark to win. Although i am rooting for Century, they haven't been to the championship in a long time. Should be fun to watch!

That was easily one of the smarter things Wingenbach has done while coaching. But still if CHS plays like they have been I take BHS by 3 tds...If CHS comes to play I take BHS by 1 td.

First time I've watched Bismarck live. BIG props to coach Gibson. They were changing personel every play as fluidly as any college. The play was ready to go in the second the previous one ended, 3 or 4 people came in about every play and not once all game was there confusion in the huddle. It was very nice to watch. I was throughly impressed.

How is Gibson not Coach of the Year or maybe the past decade.
5 straight trips to the finals 3 championships and this year with a team that wasn't supposed too get there.
Gibson is the Coach of the year, just shows that this award is one of those pass arounds so everyone gets to feel good instead of giving it to who deserves it.

Your statement regarding coach Gibson may be correct, however, other coaches do a a tremendous job with their programs and deserve recognition for their efforts as well. Statistically Mandan has produced several good years in a row, this has been an historic year for them.

deerhunter i think you should rethink your statement. great coaches are those who lead teams out of lulls. and id say mandan was in the biggest. and what happened this year? oh yeah, Coach O'Brien led them to the greatest record their team has had.

He also had the help of a great coaching staff, and I believe 2 D1 football players, 2 D1 baseball players, and the Gatorade Player of the Year, who is undecided on a college sport.

Gibson is hands down the best coach in state. He probably could care less if he wins coach of the year. This years Mandan team was soooo talented and still didn't even make it to the state championship game. If you switched coaches this year and put Gibson in Mandan and O'brien in Bismarck, Mandan wins state.

That I believe is debatable. Gibson has always had tremendous athletes at Bismarck (How they get that way is up to debate). I strongly believe if you gave the Jamestown coaching staff who just suffered an 0-9 season, the bismarck athletes, they could get them into the state title game. Likewise if you gave Gibson the Jamestown squad, I would think the only game they could have had a chance of winning was the Williston game.

Nothing against Gibson, but the talent differences between teams in AAA is pretty apparent at times.

Fargo South didn't have a horrible season last season because all of a sudden they got terrible coaches. They don't have the talent that pervious squads had.

in my personal opinion the state championship game shouldve been BHS and mandan. two nailbiting games in one season, doesnt get better then that. as for head coache argument, i dont think anyone can say who is or isnt the best coach really. there are so many variables that come into play, refs, players, assistant coaches. all of these things make a difference in whether a coach gets recognized as great or not. gibson has had a great program for years. Obrien has not. so the difference maker in this decision is the fact that Obrien had great athletes this season. therefore he won. thats my opinion.
