The teams in 9 Man

I'm guessing the NDHSAA went to the 4-10team regions because they are at the max for 9man right now, figuring that by the next round of the fball plan they would probably be down a few teams. then they wouldn't have to make any radical changes and the regions that are down a team will probably just play an 8 game schedule. Before going to 10 team regions, a lot of teams only played an 8 game schedule instead of the 9 game max so its really not that big of a deal.

well I know that there are a few Class A teams that will most likely drop down to 9-man because of poor enrollment numbers coming up.

But, those A teams would be replaced by the highest enrollment 9man teams because that division has to have 32 teams.

Yeah I realized that after I posted my comment...this will be very interesting to see what happens with this scheduling.

Just throwing this out there:
Would D-VE playing the JV teams from their region work? I know TMCHS (Belcourt) does this for VB & BB sometimes...and then they get a record from that (I can't imagine with 10 kids and most of them underclassmen that they'd win alot of those games...but they may be competitive then.)

Central Valley is looking at the same thing as DVE next year. They have 16 on their roster this year with at least half of them seniors. There is nothing confirmed yet from CV, but they are considering a JV schedule next year as well.

I think I counted on Northstar's roster 17 total and I think something like 12 were juniors and seniors. Wonder what they'll be facing for numbers in another year or two. TriCounty has only 15-16 on their roster and Dunseith has forfeited twice due to low numbers so who knows what their situation is for next year, too.

If Hillsboro and NRS win out it will probably be NB #2, NRS #3, and Hill #4. It will be a 3 way tie, but this is the most likely outcome.
If LAE loses to Cavalier, beats Hillsboro by more than 2, and NRS loses to NB. It would be NB #2, NRS #3, and LAE #4.
If Hillsboro beats LAE. It would be NB #2, Hillsboro #3, and NRS #4. This assumes NB beats NRS.

I thought that because Hillsboro beat NR-S that they would get the #3 and NR-S would get the #4...

He said it would end in a three way tie. They use a tie breaker (point spread) to get the top one then go back to head to head.

Run4Fun2009 wrote:Interesting article from the GF Herald (10/5/11) pertaining to Drayton/V-E for next season.

Blue Knights moving toward JV schedule

Drayton/Valley-Edinburg is facing a numbers crunch that could result in the football team playing a junior varsity schedule in 2012.

The Blue Knights have suited an average of roughly 17 players per game, with 10 seniors on the roster. The program has only two juniors, four sophomores and three freshmen.

“Going to a JV schedule has nothing to do with wins and losses,” said Andy Currie, the athletic director of the Drayton/Valley-Edinburg football program. “It’s a safety issue.

“If we have to throw those young kids out there against older kids, they could get frustrated, turned off to the sport and quit. Then we won’t have a program.”

Said football coach Murph Thompson: “We want to save our program. If the young kids have to play against those older kids, I don’t know if they’ll all come out. We don’t want to have to fold the program. If you do that, it will be tough to get it started again.”

Currie said the Blue Knights playing a junior varsity schedule next season is a strong possibility. But the hope is that Drayton/Valley-Edinburg will be back playing a varsity schedule in 2013. “The kids will mature physically, get stronger and will safely be able to play against juniors and seniors,” he said.

Really a shame that the NDHSAA wouldn't let St Thomas stay in this coop without moving it up to 11 man. That's the major reason St Thomas is now playing in Grafton. Now, one year later, they can't even field a varsity 9 man team.

OK, I see. I wasn't sure of the order they used to break the ties. Thanks!

In all fairness to the NDSHAA the the rules need to be uniform for everyone.

I'm not sure if this accurate, but I heard from a semi reliable source that if Hillboro loses by 1-11 points they will be out of the playoffs, but if they win or lose by more than 11 they would be in. Seems odd.

Assuming Hillsboro and NRS lose. w/o looking I think Hillsboro beat NRS by 2 and NRS beat LAE by 6.
Hillsboro is +2
NRS is +4 - no games left in the tie breaker
LAE is -6

I'm pretty sure I figured it out.

If LAE beats Hillsboro by 11 (LAE will be +5) and be the 3 seed based on points. After the 3 seed is determined points are thrown out and it is head to head between the remaining teams. Hillsboro beat NRS so they would be the #4.

If LAE beats Hillsboro by less than 11. NRS will be the 3 seed based on points and LAE will be #4 because they beat Hillsboro.

Wow. I actually had not thought of that. That's pretty messed up!

Another interesting thing about this point differential business is that after NR-S beat L/A-E on a last second touchdown pass, the teams were still forced to play the extra point play (for point differential). NR-S decided to kneel the ball and not attempt to go for 2 extra points. If that would come back to bite them in the butt, that would be a tough pill to swallow.

He probably read my analysis and said "I should do a story about that."

I wonder if Hillsboro will have somone at the NRS/NB game texting them the score.

I'm hearing Hillsboro and Central Valley are very close to co-oping in all sports. Region 2 would lose another team as Hillsboro would be forced to move to 11 man.

I don't think they will be able to co op in football until the 2013 season

That is correct, no football co-op until 2013. CV has a jv schedule for next year.

The last remaining roadblock is what to call the co-op.

Hinsa will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Thompson offered everything but VB and basketball and CV needs everything.

Flip is correct. CV needs a co-op for BB and VB NEXT year, not 2 or 3 years from now. That was the deal breaker for CV with Thompson.
