FSHP was tied going to halftime with Thompson last week. If I'm picking a team to make surprise run to the semis (I'm not) I'd pick them. I think they're in an easier portion of the bracket than SC.
If resting your starters the last game of the regular season will increase your chances of making a run in the playoffs I don't see why you shouldn't do it.
I disagree with you Flip. This was a game where seeding was at stake. What if W-L had wanted to rest their starters as well? The JVs would have decided the second seed in the region. Resting your starters when nothing is on the line is one thing. Resting them when seeding is on the line - I think that's a bad practice. (If SC really did rest their starters. Was anyone there?)
Would anyone have blamed W-L if they had put 100 on the board to make a point? I know that wouldn't be sportsmanlike, I get that. But there is a part of me that would like to run it up to say "Fine. If you want that upper bracket so bad, you're going to have to pay for it." I don't think I'd have the guts to do it, but I'd sure be thinking it.
The starters were 'rested' and I agree with you fully Hinsa- it is a poor practice - and teaching what..? losing is ok? It seems to me that Larson had no faith in his team beating Wyndmere and was trying to instill a false sense of confidence in his starters by saying 'you didnt really lose, we played the backups'. Spineless to saythe least- every game you play you play to win. period. And by today's score of 30-0......speaks volumes.
