I believe Tri-County has 15. Least I've seen for a team this year.

Tri-cty had more than 15. More like 20.

Having around 25 for 9man is still very good numbers. When you get down around 15-18 you're a little worried. Last year Maddock had 13 players in 9-12 but brought up a couple JH kids to dress games. Now this year the Benson County co-op has 35....big difference.

Are these the contenders for a 6-man league?

I've brought up the discussion of a 6 man division before. I think it would be more practical than AA 11 man for another division of ND fball

I'd love to see a break-up of the alphabet soup Co-Op's. If the schools are that small, they must have more important issues than finding other schools for sports teams. Maybe they just need to consolidate schools in the first place.
The surviving 9-man schools would have to travel even further for games though. Not an easy issue.

every school goes thru a couple of classes that are low in the no. of boys in it and then it turns around they just have to be patient and do withit what you can.being quick to coop is not going to help the situation then kids wont play becuz of travel and a chance to play ect. ect. then they will have a tough time getting back that small town pride of fridays nights in the hometown once they coop with the next town (rival possibly). the administration needs to do a survey of the lower classes and also the preschool age and get an idea before they pull the coop trigger. alot of schools have good size classes just not many boys in them.

Trust me, most towns/schools co-op as a last resort. Many hold on to their teams as long as possible because of pride and traditions. It's a tough decision for any school to decide on a co-op and many hours of research are put in. They look at current enrollment figures, projected enrollments, costs of travel, loss of revenue, lower participation caused by a co-op, etc. Everything gets thought out and hashed over for a year or two before things gets decided.

My senior year (1996) in Dunseith we had 13 players. Thats counting the two 8th graders we brought up. We finished 6-3 that year and missed the playoffs by 1 game. Rolla gave up something like 80 points the whole year and we scored 40 against them. Finished that game playing with 8 players. All other players were out with injuries or were hurt during the game. Its also the only year that our coach Randy Will ever beat Rolette. We beat them 12-8. Great years for me back in the mid 90's. After I graduated Dunseith didn't win another football game till 2001 when they won 1 game. Unfortunate for the kids around here. It gets me mad when I hear kids here say that Dunseith has never had a good football team. If there were 4 teams making it to the playoffs like now, Dunseith would have been in the playoffs for 10 years in a row. We always ended up 3rd or 4th in the states best region. Enough of my rambling now.

Hey, I'm glad he shared his story of Dunseith fball. I never knew they had such a good team a while ago. Too bad they couldn't keep up any tradition to keep the program going at a high level.

I agree. Knew they have always had great tradition in basketball but didn't know about the past success in football.
Dunseith_Runners, a couple of questions for you. Does Dunseith lack numbers in football and do you see the football program turning around anytime in the future?
I watched Dunseith a couple of times last year and they had good size and speed. They always seemed to shoot themselves in the foot by having a turnover or penalty at very unopportune times to put them in a hole and then would never recover.

I think the biggest thing they need is coaching. My senior year was also the last year Randy Will coached. He was Dunseiths coach for 20 years. Dunseith does have good size and decent speed. They need a coach and they need to get that losing tradition turned around. I don't see Dunseith being good or even average in football till they make some changes. When I was in high school St.John was the team everyone wanted to play because they were like Dunseith is now. But Mr. Davis turned their program around and I am happy for them. I hope they keep it going up there. Its the same thing in Belcourt. They need coaching and they made a change this year and I hope it works for them. They too have some pretty good athletes. So I guess my point being your only going to be as good as your coaching. I went to a practice in Dunseith and the kids didn't know the difference between run block left from run block right and the coaches thought I was crazy for showing them the difference. But I do hope that they turn it around. As far as #'s they are fine. They need to be taught and have some discipline and respect for their coaches. It's really bad and I get embarrassed and very frustrated at their games. I have watched very few games since I moved back here from Bismarck and thats been about 5 years now.
