How does a kid like Caleb Nelson not get picked? Or did he turn it down?

He is the 6-5 260 pounder going to UND? I thought he would for sure, Must have turned it down to avoid the risk of injury. Too bad it is a great experience for football reasons and for life.

Agreed. Looks like a good roster. Nice to see Central Mclean represented. Its too bad that if a kid plays on a poor team he won't even get a look. I think there is a lot of good talent overlooked.

I would not doubt the fact that he may have chosen not to play. Some really good players with alot of potential have gotten hurt in the Shrine game. Examples Jay Sheldon dislocated his hip and Fred Walker hurt his neck, or as some would call it the big chunk of meat between his head and shoulders. It seems playoff apearances mean alot to the number of picks. i am sure there are some overlooked players. However with the addition of the nineman game it gives a whole lot more chances to be on the team to some small town kids.

How does a kid like Caleb Nelson not get picked? Or did he turn it down?

Maybe it is because there are that many kids in the state that are better then he is. He is a good football player, but he got dominated in games by a lot of kids that weren't nearly as good as he was. He didn't perform his senior year like he has in the past which kind of disappointed me. He got picked up by UND for his potential, and if you look at that East roster there are some exceptional athletes that are also playing college ball. I don't know how exaclty how all these kids were picked, but this is just my opinion on what i saw in football games.

I think he had a better junior season. Just because you have the build to be on the team doesn't mean you are automatically picked.
