So, what's the point, teams that like to run up the score or teams that actually need the points to win? On their own, it doesn't really mean anything.

So, the top 2, 9 points ahead of everyone else, must be the point runners? The rest are there because they can or need to be?

uhhhh I really don't know, I don't pay attention to a lot of the teams on the list. I just know Berthold ran the score up against my team haha not saying they are the only ones that run up the score.

If Lewis&Clark-Our Redeemer's can score 69 in a game vs. Divide County, a team many thought to be one of the best in the state, they can probably score 45 in a half without blinking an eye against a poor team. So 56 a game doesn't seem like that much to me. What is surprising to me is some teams like Edgeley-Kulm, who is down this year, average 31.

Before you accuse anyone of running up the score, do some analysis on when they score their points. Are they scoring 90% of their points in the first half? If so, they are not running up the score in my opinion.

You have to run your game plan in the first half to build any kind of continuity in your offense for the post season. Second half, all bets are off, you need to reign in your horses if you've got running time going.

Nice point Hinsa. If a team plays a weak team and can score at will whether it is running or passing, a coach just cant change the game plan in the first half just because it is a blow out. Like Hinsa said, a team has to get continuity in the offense. If throwing the ball in the 2nd quarter to get your qb reps in running the offense and the score is a blowout, a coach still has to do it to get ready for playoffs. Its just the way it is The starters have only played 2 full games this entire season. Kind of scary thinking that playoff time is around the corner and the starters dont get see the second half of games.

Thatguy422, dont know where you are from, I am guessing that Berthold had their JV in the second half and still put points on the board, what are they supposed to do take a knee every play.

ok...so I've realized that some of you have no clue what you are talking about. Hinsa is correct in stating that you need to pay attention to the scores of these games at halftime. Berthold is definitely not running up the score as I've been to plenty of their games this year. After the first team plays maybe five series on defense and offense, the coach starts to pull the starters at the end of the first quarter or beginning of the second. They have not been running up the score as it is tough to ask second or third-string players to not play hard when they run right up the middle for a long chunk of yardage. The Glenburn game was a great example. Berthold attempted only one pass the entire game. Next time some of you decide to post about teams that "run up the score", please get your facts straight.

Ummmmm I think their jv scored 2 touchdowns in the second half. I see your point about scoring most their points in the first half. Just seems like they didn't have to do as many pass plays when they're ahead by a good 40 points. I understand the continuity stuff though.

If ya look at the stats that are given in a few post, Berthold win by an average of 27.7 pts a game. I looked at Ricardton and they win by 32.7 pts a game... Anyone want to take on another team running up the score. In 9 man, you can score very quickly and often, so IMO 27.7 pts (4 TDs) is a nice win in 9 man football, not running up the score. :D

If i was a coach, which i am not, my thinking would be this: it is not my job to stop myself from scoring. that is the defenses job. if they cant do that then i cant ruin my entire gameplan and strategy just because we're scoring every drive. now that being said, i definately do not think it is ok to have your starters in after halftime in a blowout, but your starters need at least that half to play to get ready for upcoming games that might be tough or even for playoffs when they might need the whole game.
