Region 2 2008

The teams in 9 Man

Region 2 2008

Postby Hinsa » Wed Oct 01, 2008 9:48 pm

OK, let's start over.

Games this weekend:

FSHP @ Hillsboro (without A. Grothmann)
Northern Cass @ Hankinson
GCC @ WL
BCN @ Richland

Any thoughts?

I think the home teams take all 4 games.

Hard to argue there...

Hillsboro over FSHP - The Burros are 5-0 when I'm not in attendence, so I will stay home and allow that streak to continue

Hankinson over Northern Cass - Hankinson is one of the top teams in this goofy region 2 that's been going on, and they've been playing pretty well

WL over GCC - Pretty much the same thing as Hankinson, I'm loving the 3 team race for 1st that's been going on

Richland and BCN...push - Honestly, it depends on which Richland team decides to show up on friday. Here I thought the loss to WL was due to their emotional win over the Burros, but then they lose to FSHP? That's too bad, I was looking forward to seeing the Colts in the postseason...and now there's an uphill climb

Two things could happen in the BCN / Richalnd game

One would be Richalnd bounces back big time ..... or BCN pulls their head out and play like they are capable of and get their second victory in region 2.

FSHP over Hillsboro( i honestly believe that with his defensive ability, blocking and running the ball, andrew grothman accounts for almost 30 points, so i'm goin with an upset here.)

NC over Hankinson

Wyndmere over GCC( just too much power for the cougars)

Richland over BCN(i dont think its possible for richland to lose this game, then again i didnt think it was possible for fshp to beat them so who knows.)

Ill give you credit for being that guy who picks upsets, because if you get it right then you look good. But lets get real. FSHP beat a struggling Richland team last week, ya that was impressive, but Hillsboro??? Lets look at the number of players and play makers. They dont need Grothman to run dives up the gut to score. They will run option all day and put up 45 on them. Blowout.......gaurenteed

Even IF Grothmann is worth 30 points, that equates to a 30 point Hillsboro win without him.

This is just "bulletin board" material for his brother -- Zach for 250 and 4 TDs tomorrow night.

Hillsboro has a very physical and very athletic line and even without Andrew Grothmann I still think that Hillsboro could contend for the region title.

nothing against andrew but i think zach is a better running back than andrew. quicker better cuts and just as durable.andrew has more of a future on the defensive side. just my opinion

Totally different players -- impossible to compare.

Put Andrew deep and give him a good lead blocker (like himself) and he averages 20 yards/carry. Seriously.

Zach, though, is very shifty and incredibly patient. He uses Andrew so well.

BballFan - I admire your loyalty. I understand your reasoning for picking the upset, but if Richland hadn't already slapped Hillsboro upside the head and woke them up, I'd probably agree with you a bit more. As it is, the Burros know that there is no more margin for error. I think they'll be ready.

obviously i know chances are, we probably arent going to win. and i was in no way downgrading the hillsboro team or zach grothman when i said andrew grothmann is worth about 30 points(which i believe he is). i am just going with FSHP because yes hinsa, i am a loyal fan, and with andrew grothmann out the chances of us winning went from 3 percent to maybe 15?

Richland 42, BCN 12
Shocker if it's correct on KVLY site - Northern Cass 40, Hankinson 6!!!!!!!!!!!!
WL 46, Griggs 18

That puts the region standings something like this:

Hillsboro 4-1
Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 4-1
Hankinson 3-2
Richland 3-2
Finley-Sharon 3-2
Northern Cass 2-3
Barnes County North 1-4
Griggs County Central 0-5

We're back to a 6-team race for playoff spots!

I was very upset with the way richland played last night. Some of there players need to concentrate more on the playoffs they are trying to get into and stop playing so dirty....they might be able to win some of the games against the top teams in the region if they don't play so dirty. And i don't want to fight with anyone i am just saying i was upset with what i saw. If they are such a good team why do you need to do stuff like they did.

Has every team on your schedule this year been "dirty" except, obviously, Griggs County?

Just curious.

haha no football is a rough sport and if you are just hitting after the wistle or pushing a kid when not needed that is not really dirty that is just guys being guys but i do not want to get into what they did i was just warning the teams that richland has to play this year be ready for some weird crap.

i think maybe the key word in your statement here is what I saw and not what actually happened to me stuff like they did is a pretty broad statement

Richland is playing dirty? That's definitely news to me, every time I've ever watched/played Richland, they've always shown class...like, an unnatural amount of class, helping the other team up constantly, not talking smack, and very humble during a win/supportive in a loss.

:P <-- that's all I have to say to Hinsa right now

Some big games this week with playoff implications:

Barnes County North at Northern Cass
Hankinson at Richland-Colfax
Hillsboro at Griggs County Central
Wyndmere-Lidgerwood at Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page

I'll go with Northern Cass, Richland, Hillsboro, and FSHP. But the way this region has gone this year, it wouldn't surprise me to see 3 of those go the other way. I don't see GCC rising up and beating Hillsboro.

I was looking at MaxPreps and added up the non-region wins/losses for the eastern regions:

Region 1 - 5-6
Region 2 - 7-6
Region 3 - 8-7

Pretty balanced between the 3.

How did Norther Cass win there game last week? Was it just by a good run game or great passing or did the defence score for them. I just know they like scored 22 in the second half.

Northern Cass dominated the game by playing a zone coverage on defense and the Hankinson receivers didnt find the gaps. This zone left a little room for Althoff to run on but having a dislocated foot i beleive it was he wasnt as mobile as usual. Northern Cass also came into this game more pumped then Hankinson and just walked all over them on both offense and defense.
