Some interesting early matchups:

Divide County - Williams County
Central McLean - Mott-Regent
Edgeley-Kulm - Richland
NCB - Lakota
Wyndmere-Lidgerwood - Oakes
E-K - T-G-U
Mott-Regent - Richardton-Taylor

Any thoughts on any of these matchups? All of these games should be some good early season indicators of strength across regions.

I like Richland to establish themselves as an east power with a win over E-K. How about M-R vs. R-T? That's a huge matchup. Anyone who knows those teams have some insight?

If M-R can come out of the first week of the season with at least a win, they will have survived the toughest part of their regular season. M-R lost more to graduation than any other team in the state. I Know Central McClean has a good group back as usual, and the game will be in Mott this year. Historically though the visiting team has had the edge in the meetings between these teams. I can't make any call in this game. It's a toss up.

R-T vs M-R will be a doozy. The Raiders have one heck of an athlete returning in RB Jaden Messer. The Wildfire's D will be up to the challenge though with two the best linemen in the Region if not the state: Matt Dobitz, and Nick Kautzman. M-R will win if they can keep Messer in check, and if their Offense can come into their own and pick up where their state championship team left off. (which may take some time, they only have one returning starter, but the boys they do have are very capable). R-T was picked to win the region, and M-R was picked 2nd, with CMC picked 3rd. The first week of the season will dictate how the standings end up. Good luck to all teams starting the season, may you all be successful and safe.

Kind of crazy to think if a team survives their first game the rest of the season is that much easier. The key throughout the season is to see who keeps improving. There must be someone on their schedule that will challenge them later in the year?
The Oakes and Wyndmere game will be a nice early test for two teams with great upside.

Just like last season in Region 6, the caliber of teams really drops off after that top four teams. I really think it is all connected to numbers. From what I've heard, most of the teams in this region are having trouble getting kids to go out, which is not something that CMC, RT, MR, and Heart River have trouble doing. This is big because the key to surviving the regular season, and going far in the post-season, is having the numbers and depth to overcome injuries or other garbage. That's why I think things will only get easier for the wildfire as the season goes on. If a team with less than 20 kids out has some key players get injured late in the season, they are screwed. I'm not predicting another championship or anything like that. In fact, if they make the playoffs I'd be proud of them. They just play their best competition in the first two weeks.

Thanks for the info Pfenix. Nice to see some chatter about football now that it's only a week away.

W-L vs Oakes: I'm going to say W-L wins that one. They've got some tough linemen coming back and getting Woodbury from Richland certainly helps fill holes in their backfield. Who's playing QB for W-L now that Puetz is gone? He was as tough as they come.

I can't believe there is no chatter about Divide vs. Williams yet. How do they stack up this year???

The trash was too deep last year, looks like everyone is keeping quiet, for now.

This is going to be one of those games where the season will only get easier and should decide the region. Williams has the home field advantage which unfortunately may be key.

Heard a rumor that WC imported a ringer from someplace like Wisconsin. Any truth or info?

This will be a fun game to watch . . . both teams have "big play" players that can score every time they touch the ball.

Williams lost basically their entire line O and D except for a few guys who got subbed in. They probably have a little more speed than divide does at their skill posisions though.

Divide has 4 linemen that were starters or played big minutes last year back on the line. They will have to avoid is thinking the game will be a blow out again.

Both teams have some holes to fill in and will have to find some players willing to step up their game.

However I do think that both teams have the potential to have very successful seasons.

Hettinger over HR 18-14. HR ahead at half 14-12 led by the QB Smith with a long run for a score and 1 TD toss. Hettinger had huge defensive stands at the end of the 3rd to take momentum into the 4th and won it on a 70 yard drive capped off by about a 30 yard toss from Jacobson to Morast with 1:15 left. Great game, very evenly matched and could have went either way.
