Minnesota players were first added to the rosters in 2006 in order to include Shriners who live in these areas in the fundraising efforts. Adding Minnesota players does not mean fewer players from North Dakota, roster sizes were increased to add the players, which in turn adds considerably to funds for the mission of the Shrine Hospitals, which provide free medical care for burned and crippled children.

What does anyone know about the West Squad.  I am from NW Minnesota, so I am interested in seeing the 3 MN guys compete and see where they stack up. All three of them are really talented players.

The East in the 9 man game. 17-0. The west couldn't block, run, or pass. It's not because they didn't have any talent. I always think it's a bad idea to have kids play a competative game 6 months after the season. They are out of shape with new coaches and don't put it all out there. Obviously, the Shrine Game is a good thing, but sometimes it's alot to ask for these kids to learn a whole new system of coaching and execution in 3 or 4 days.

East calls a timeout in the final seconds to kick a field goal making the score 17-0. ok or not ok?  That kid had a good leg on him.

in a regular season, not okay. in an all-star game, okay.

it is an exhibition and if the kid has a chance to get on the field to show what he can do, more power to him. especially since he hit the field goal. now if he would have missed it or they were just screwing around and didn't have a decent fg kicker...eh...maybe that isn't so cool.

but it seems like they had a decent reason for doing it. not often you can get jacked up about a kicker, especially at the high school level.

Great Show from the Shriners! I attended the Banquet and it was good start to finish. Common All-Star game, 1-team grabbed the momentum and seemed to run with it... It was the East this season. As for the Field Goal, the Napoleon Coach at the Banquet Stated " He hadnt had a FG Kicker in 17 years" and that the" kid  from Minnesota was hitting 50 yarders in practice". Napoleon coach would also go onto say " if any oppurtunity arose, the Kid would get a chance to boot one". It was all in fair play, festive atmosphere and I just wished the West coulda got something going!
