I'll try to get those out later on today or tomorrow. I've been really busy this week so I haven't had time to get the scenarios out.

Here is who clinched last week though:
Underlined teams clinched the #1 seed in the region
Italicized teams have clinched at least a 1st round bye (Regions 1 and 6 only)

Region 1: Richland, Hankinson
Region 2: Thompson, Cavalier, New Rockford-Sheyenne, North Border
Region 3: Shiloh Christian
Region 4: North Prairie, TGU
Region 5: Mott-Regent, New Salem/Glen Ullin, Hettinger/Scranton
Region 6: Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood, Divide County

And here is the 9-man bracket for the matchups concerning like seeds:

It appears most of the top teams in the 9-man poll are all in the same upper bracket. I guess you gotta beat whoever is in your bracket to advance, but I would take any of the top 5 teams from Regions 1,2,3 over any team from Regions 4,5,6 this year. There are going to be some great quarterfinal/semifinal games for the 2015 season.

I wouldn't sleep on the teams out west, especially from Region 5. Mott-Regent is looking really good, yes they lost to Hankinson in week 1, but that was without one of their 2 best players. I agree that the east is loaded, but there are some very talented teams out west that could surprise some people.

Here are the playoff scenarios for this weeks games. Remember to correct me if I am wrong and if I find another scenario, I'll be adding them throughout the day.

This Week's Playoff Scenarios (Week 6 - Game 7)

Note #1: The top teams in each region get a First Round Bye
Note #2: The 2nd place teams in Regions 1 and 6 get a 1st Round Bye

  • All four playoff teams have been decided
  • Thompson clinched in Week 4
  • Cavalier, New Rockford-Sheyenne, and North Border clinched last week
  • Thompson clinches the #1 seed with a win
  • North Border will be the #4 seed with wins by Cavalier AND New Rockford-Sheyenne

  • Linton/HMB clinches the #2 seed with a win AND a Central McLean loss AND a Shiloh Christian win
  • The winner of Strasburg/Zeeland and Central McLean clinches a playoff berth

"Hankinson clinches #2 seed with a win". I believe you need to add 'and a Lamoure loss' to that. This is for 2 reasons. If Lamoure would upset Richland, then all 3 teams have 1 loss and are 1-1 against the other two. If they finish the season that way then it goes to point differential and Hankinson is +2 (+6 Lamoure and -4 Richland). If Lamoure beats Richland by 9, then I believe Hankinson would be #3 seed. Also, it is conceivable that Hankinson could lose their last game to Sargent Central (not likely but we are talking about Clinching). So Hankinson could end up with 2 losses and LaMoure and Richland could each have 1 loss, so Hankinson would finish #3 seed.

Region 5 will come down to the Hettinger-Scranton vs New Salem GU A game. HS wins they're 1, a loss puts them as 4

Re: 9-Man Playoff Clinching Scenarios

Postby caserace0710 » Sun Oct 04, 2015 8:36 pm

Final week of the season. Some regions have a lot on the line, while other regions have only seeding scenarios. Here are the clinching/seeding scenarios for the last week of the 9-man season:

Week 7 Clinching Scenarios (Game #8)

Region 1
Summary: All four teams in Region 1 have been determined with Richland and Hankinson clinching the #1 and #2 seeds respectively with 1st round byes. LaMoure/Litchville-Marion (vs. Finley-Sharon/Hope-Page) and Wyndmere/Lidgerwood (vs. Richland) still need to determine the #3 and #4 seeds in the region.

Scenarios:
  1. LaMoure/Litchville-Marion wins OR Wyndmere/Lidgerwood loses
    • LaMoure/Litchville-Marion is the #3 seed
    • Wyndmere/Lidgerwood is the #4 seed
  2. Wyndmere/Lidgerwood wins AND LaMoure/Litchville-Marion loses
    • Wyndmere/Lidgerwood is the #3 seed
    • LaMoure/Litchville-Marion is the #4 seed

Region 2
Summary: All four teams in Region 2 were determined the week before. This past week, Thompson clinched the #1 seed while North Border clinched the #4 seed and has a meeting with Linton/HMB in the first round. The Cavalier vs. New Rockford-Sheyenne game has big implications as the winner gets the #2 seed and home field in the first round while the loser gets the #3 seed and will travel in the first round.

Scenarios:
  1. Cavalier wins
    • Cavalier is the #2 seed
    • New Rockford-Sheyenne is the #3 seed
  2. New Rockford-Sheyenne wins
    • New Rockford-Sheyenne is the #2 seed
    • Cavalier is the #3 seed

Region 3
Summary: Three of the four teams in Region 3 have been determined. Shiloh Christian will be the #1 seed, Linton/HMB will be the #2 seed and host North Border in the first round, and Strasburg/Zeeland will be the #3 seed. The battle for the #4 seed will be between Central McLean (vs. Linton/HMB), South Border (vs. Shiloh Christian), and Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter (vs. Kidder County).

Scenarios:
  1. Central McLean wins OR Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter loses
    • Central McLean clinches the #4 seed
  2. South Border wins, Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter wins, AND Central McLean loses
    • Each team finishes the region at 3-4
      • 1st Tiebreaker (Head-to-Head): Each team is 1-1 against each other
        • Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter beat Central McLean 32-16
        • Central McLean beat South Border 30-14
        • South Border beat Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 28-6
      • 2nd Tiebreaker (Point Differential in H2H contests with a maximum of 17 points):
        • South Border: +1
        • Central McLean: 0
        • Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter: -1
    • South Border clinches the #4 seed based on the 2nd tiebreaker
  3. Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter wins AND Central McLean loses AND South Border loses
    • Central McLean and Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter finish 3-4 in the region
    • Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter clinches the #4 seed based on head-to-head victory over Central McLean

Region 4
Summary: Three of the four teams in Region 4 have been determined. North Prairie clinched the #1 seed a couple weeks ago and TGU clinched the #2 seed last week. St. John has clinched a playoff berth but they can either be the #3 or #4 seed. The final playoff berth is down to Dunseith (who is looking to qualify for the 1st time since 1985), Benson County and Drake-Anamoose (looking to qualify for the 1st time ever as a consolidated school). Both the Benson County vs. St. John and Dunseith vs. Drake-Anamoose games have huge implications.

Scenarios:
  1. St. John and Dunseith both win
    • St. John is the #3 seed
    • Dunseith is the #4 seed
  2. St. John wins AND Dunseith loses by 9 or fewer points
    • Dunseith, Drake-Anamoose, and Benson County all finish 2-4 in region play

        • Dunseith beat Benson County 48-22
        • Benson County beat Drake-Anamoose 14-12
        • Drake-Anamoose defeats Dunseith by 10 or more points
