"The Dakota Champion"

The teams in 9 Man

"The Dakota Champion"

I'm heading to a playoff game in South Dakota tonight and it got me thinking, why couldn't the state 9 man champion from SD play the champion from ND. They could rotate the games between the states domed venues. I think that would be a great show of our two states great 9 man traditions!

Excellent idea in theory, but when do you suggest they play? Football teams run from the state play-off game right into basketball practices. Many of those boys are involved in both sports.

I agree, it would be fun to see. Of course, North Dakota would win.

How about something along the Shrine format in the summer? 9 man ND vs. 9 man SD?

What other divisions does SD have?

I think it's the same for 11-man AA, A, and B.

Imagine all the things heimer could find wrong with that system.

oh the SD system is so far gone it's ridiculous, they have 11 and 9 (AA, A, 9-man) for both. They seed all of their tournaments based on a power point system, they play the first round and then re seed the teams.

Just a little history story between ND & SD sports. In 1981, a bb game was scheduled between ND and SD. 10 players from each state (all classes together) were selected by coaches to play an all-star game. However, that was the year the Lions game went to the 2 game format and so it was cancelled due to the 2 game all-star rule. Would be different for a team event of course.

The one thing I will give the SDHSAA is that their website is awesome! very easy to find what you're looking for

I have never used the MSHSL site, but I don't think the NDHSAA site is remotely close to being as user friendly as the SDHSAA site.

This game wouldn't mean much.....
SD is pretty much a carbon copy of ND land wise but it has 200,000 more people..Why? I suspect just being that much farther South must be the ticket.

South Dakota (like ND) is also a one level athlete State with even more Divisions because of Pop.....and a Football game between a ND & SD town with similar populations would play out close I would presume...

Example:
Grafton last season against a Harrisburg or Mobridge would be competitive game, as would a Cavalier this year and a Webster SD..........

You have to put things in perspective....you don't want the Pride (and both states have it) wrecking the body's of young athletes to say "WE WON"....you know the reffing wouldn't be fair, it never is in this scenario.........and in all reality it doesn't matter....its like "who make the best sausage"??..... they're both good

I do like seeing a Travis Beck (true inhabitants of Munich ND) at NDSU........and I really like the results of last weekend when they played South Dakota!!!

thats what matters!!....JMHO!
If you can’t excel with talent, triumph with effort.

Ya and Austin Brown from Harding County (Buffalo,SD) will be taking the big 12 by storm next year, would be receiving a ton of playing time this year but has to sit out because he transferred from University of Sioux Falls and they (Harding County) are in the smallest division in South Dakota
