Vasquez is a very good player but i'm not sure if he is the MVP. He isn't the natural leader Illies seems to be. If i'm not mistaken he has missed 2 starts of the season because of, i believe grades, and is a very hot headed player. If anyone watched the Napoleon semi finals game last year they saw some of that. Illies appears to be more of the level headed field general so that the guy i would want on my team. Thus making him the MVP

Cant argue with any of this and I wasnt aware of the missed starts due to grades or inherent leadership abilities. Illies is without a doubt the best football player on the team and probably the state, any class. Was just speaking to the value Luis brings in all he does and Jeff has been clearly playing hurt so more of the load has fallen to Luis in the early part of the season. That was the point I was trying to make, not that he was a better football player.

Completely agree Vasquez is a heck of an athlete and is a good player on both sides of the ball.

How is the new QB at WL at running the ball? Last year it seemed like the main threat out of the backfield was QB Bell.

Not sure...but midway through the last game W-L moved Vasquez to QB and I guess things moved much smoother after that switch

You don't know if it was because of an injury?

'Scott Strenge, Wyndmere-Lidgerwood's Head Coach, said that he moved Vasquez from the running back and receiver positions to quarterback in the second quarter, hoping to spark the Warbirds (4-0). He described Vasquez as his team’s version of Tim Tebow.

“We moved him to quarterback to give us a change of pace,” Strenge said. “When we moved him, we were able to do more things.”'

How does it look between SC and Hankinson this Friday? SC has 3 good players out in Jablonsky, Mahrer, and Zirnhelt being the biggest. Hankinson has a great player in Veit out too so thoughts?

South Border is missing starting QB Mikey Jacobsen for their game against Napoleon. (Knee injury and will probably miss a few weeks.) His younger brother Adam is making his 1st start at QB. SB 6 - Napoleon 6 with about 6 minutes left in the 2nd qtr.

Final score - Napoleon 18 SB 6. A good game up through the 1st 3 qtrs and then Napoleon took over. Napoleon's D line played very well tonight and controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the game. The younger Jacobsen looked pretty shaky in his 1st start at QB. SB also lost All State running back Blake Bosch who was taken off the field by ambulance with a few minutes to go in the game. Thoughts and prayers go out to him. This should set up a showdown between Napoleon and Wyndmere for the Region 1 title.

Blake Bosch (SB) sustained a bruised back near his spinal cord and a hip pointer from what I was told from a Wishek parent. He is going to be ok but will miss at least the next 2 weeks according to the Dr's this weekend. It sounds like Mike Jacobson will miss at least next weeks game also with a leg injury. This will be a real test of SB's depth - I think they will have to win out in order to guarantee a play-off spot.

That's good to hear, the way it sounded it could have been really bad.

Thank the Lord he is going to be okay. Hope to see him up and running soon. Also hope Mike Jacobson's injury is not serious, he is a great player in his own right.

People like to say Region 1 is overated. One argument against such a notion might be that the current 7th place team in Region 1 just lost to the #1 team in the state on the road by 2 points.

Record - remaining schedule
Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 6-0 (@LLM, SZ, @Napoleon)
Napoleon-Gackle-Streeter 5-1 (EK, @Hankinson, WL)
South Border 4-2 (Ellendale, @EK, Hankinson)
LaMoure-LM 4-2 (WL, @SC, Richland)
Hankinson 4-2 (@SZ, Napoleon, @SB)
Richland 3-3 (@SC, Ellendale, @Lamoure)
Sargent Central 2-4 (Richland, Lamoure, @SZ)
Edgeley-Kulm 1-5
Strasburg/Zeeland 1-5
Ellendale 0-6

I think this is right.

As of now I don't think this region is as good as it was last season mainly because last year I think the 2 best teams in the state were in this region and this year I'm not sure how good WL is. Such an interesting region though. Very interesting 3 weeks remaining to fight for those last few playoff spots.

Yeah Flip, I will not argue that but still pretty deep. And Napoleon still has a chance to win their 8th straight Region title.

Nice to see Blake Bosch back in action for South Border - I had been told he was out for at least 2 weeks but he is one tough kid! Also for SB - QB Mikey Jacobson is done for the year after having surgery for a torn miniscus. Talked to his dad today and they are pretty sure he will be ready for the start of basketball season.

Tough break for Michael and his football season. One heck of a QB, maybe the best in Region 1. Hoping and praying for a speedy recovery and an injury free basketball season. He is a stud in that sport too. And yes, Bosch is ridiculously tough. Good to see him back at it so soon.

If i had to bet i would say this region comes down to the last week of the season when WL goes out to NGS. I think the best NGS is gonna be able to do is share the title. I will take WL to win though after losing to NGS twice last year these guys are gonna be fired up. Reminds me a lot of when WL went to Hillsboro in 2010 and knocked of the number one team in the state. That kind of atmosphere anyway but I doubt it will be a blowout like that was. I take WL to win the Region beating NGS by 7 in a tough one
