Mott losing that game had nothing to do with them missing three starters. It was 70-30 for goodness sake. Having those players wouldn't have made up for a 40 point gap. They were linebackers and RB's from what I was told. They would have had little impact on that game. I could see if they were missing a couple D-Lineman or some recievers. So please don't try to make it sound like they were at such a disadvantage. They could not block DC, and they didn't even come close to slowing down their run game. And that start's up front obviously. Also, DC beat Mott 28-6 (AT MOTT). And that was when Mott was fully healthy. Do your homework before you start making assumptions about why games turn out the way they do.

I did my homework! LB's are the most important part of a run defense for one thing! They are the ones that key on the RB's! It was 40-30 at half, so obviously the replacements got wore down. And if you go back and do your homework (read past posts) you would know what happened in that game. One kid they were missing was Vesledahl he only recorded 150+ tackles and had 42 rec for 588 yds and 6 tds which is 2nd on the team for receivers. Greff was also missing he only had 120+ tackles and led the team in rushing 511 yds 8 tds! The other missing player was their 3rd leading tackler with 95+ and their 2nd leading rusher with 331 yds! So they were missing a key part of their team all though they are a very deep team and have an awesome combo in Schweitzer to Mossbrucker (that torched the Maroons d in the first 16 minutes, they led 30-16) much like NS has in Hagler to Grande! So I do believe if those kids were there it wouldve been a different outcome, maybe not a win but a lot closer of a game!

Do your homework, nordstde! 8)

Just to clarify it was 56-30 at halftime. But the game was over when DC went up 32-30. Mott had nothing left. They were physically beat up. No one touched a DC rusher on the next three touchdowns before the half. DC put in their freshman and sophomores midway thru the 3rd quarter and they scored on Mott. As for Mott's rushing game. Nothing, -17 yards. And it wasn't much better when they were at full strength they rushed for 36 yards in the first game. In 2 games against DC, Mott passed for 558 yards and still lost by a combined score of 98-36.
It should be a good game on Sat in Cando.Looking forward to it.

My bad it was 30-16 just into the 2nd quarter is what I meant to say. And it does sound like Mott got wore down by the middle of the 2nd quarter. It should be fun on Saturday! I hope the weather doesn't stop anybody from coming to the game. I will be in Cando for it no matter what!

From what I hear is that MR was without 5 players that started both ways. I'm not making any excuses for anybody, but when you take out 5 starters that is quite a daunting task to hang with any team. The 5 starters were RB, FB, 2 TE's, and a G. On defense I believe they were the 3 LB's, DE, and CB. I think it would be tough for any team in state to beat someone without 5 solid starters. Especially in 9-man when depth can become an issue. I'm not saying MR would have won, but I listened to the game and MR had no answer for DC's offense. They were almost guaranteed a TD unless they fumbled. It would be like the equivalent of DC playing without Holm, Jacobs, Simonson, Wiggington, and one of the studly guards. Not an easy thing to do.

I do expect DC to win this one by 14. Much too physical and very tough to stop. Turnovers could be a key in this one.

panthercub. I'm not trying to argue with you. But I guess I need to defend myself a bit. I was born and raised in Crosby, which is in Divide County if you didn't know. So, obviously I was AT the game. First off, linebackers ARE NOT the most important part of a defense when stopping the run, the D-Lineman are. Mott wasn't able to handle DC up front, that is why they lost that game. There is no way having a couple of linebackers would have put Mott back in the game. Also, they could not block DC's pass rushers. Our D coordinator made a few adjustments after Mott went up by 14, and that's when the game was over. Our DE's drilled the QB over and over. And he did a very good job of staying tough, but nobody can handle a pounding like that. Whether they had those starters or not, DC would have dominated up front.

And for the second time, DC beat Mott 28-6 AT MOTT, and that was when Mott was fully healthy. See ya Saturday big guy.

I don't know if I can outright say that linebackers are more important than D lineman when stopping the run, but I'll say they are at the very least as important. Show me a team that stops the run well and I'll show you some good linebackers, or at least one really good one.

I agree with you Indy5. What I'm saying is that if you don't have quality D-Lineman to keep your linebackers clean, you'll have a much tougher time stopping the run. And Mott did not have quality lineman.

I don't know what weather report you're looking at but what I see is a high of 48, 10% chance of precipitation, and 10-20 MPH winds. I'm pretty sure that's some good passing weather. In favor for North Star. I say North Star in a close one!

DC is having lots of trouble containing the pass. Hagler very good at extending the play waiting for a receiver to get open.
