2023 Class A Football Poll

The teams in Class A

Central Cass is about to be Class A by enrollment numbers; They already moved themselves up in Wrestling to Class A for this season in preparation for the future.

2025 Central Cass will be in the AA division for football because of their Class A enrollment.
However, Valley City might be coming down as they've already submitted for dropping to Class B as their enrollment is going to be barely 300 in about 2 years...so those two will likely just flip.

Once the Fargo Diversion is finished, Harwood and other areas north of Fargo will likely blow up too. Then Northern Cass will become disliked as well, even though they have a bunch of kids from the Fargo metro already. To the point above, they just haven't had as much success yet.

Nobody ever complains about Oak Grove football either. Shocking.

So, winning history + private or Class B within 25 miles of a metro = higher "scrutiny" (which is such a nice PC way of saying dislike).

Oak Grove could have barely sustained a 9-man team this year with their numbers...and that will continue for years to come. Heck, 0-7 Northern Cass just ROLLED them this past weekend...Just not a football school anymore...35 wins over 16 seasons since winning AA State (as a coop with Moorhead's Park Christian)

21-68 over 11 years of Class A (2011-2012; 2015-present)
5-13 over 2 years of 9-man (2013-2014)
9-19 over 3 years in Class AA (2008-2010)

No reason to be 'up-in-arms' in football over a school that just can't compete.

No need to be complaining for Basketball & Volleyball anymore with 3 classes here or coming soon.

I think something like 90% of the land in and around Harwood on the "dry side" of the diversion is in the West Fargo district. It will probably benefit West Fargo schools WAY more, to the point where I could see West Fargo needing to add another High School near Harwood, just like they did with Horace.

Northern Cass leadership has started having discussions about capping open enrollment as they are pretty much maxed out on space, as opposed to asking their taxpayers to add on to the school so that open enrollers can be accommodated.

I could see that from NC's standpoint. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I believe there will a new school built.
It is a little harder to motivate kids I guess because they’ve been pampered so much. We’re in the trophy generation, give ‘em a trophy for 23rd place, make ‘em feel good. Make mom and dad feel good.” Tom Izzo, Michigan State Basketball
