I Agree but I think Larimore may be picked a little high. I'd put Hazen Rugby and Velva ahead of them.
I take that back. They may be picked right. :D

Yea I could see a rematch of PRFL and Larimore for the spot at the Dakota bowl. PRFL's line may not be huge but they are fast. And PRFL has way too many weapons to defend. :D

It looks to me that Park River, Larimore, Carrington, and Rugby could be playing with double A teams this year and have fairly successful seasons. I don't know much about the west so I can't say about the teams out there. Oak grove will not be able to compete with Park River next week and my bet will be that second half will be played on mercy rule. This will be true of Lakota too when they play Park River. I saw both Oak Grove and Lakota they do not have kids to match up with above four teams in talent, size, quickness, and experience to play with these teams. I hope that they don't experience any serious injuries playing against these teams for sake of the kids playing.

Was there to see the PRFL stomping of M-NS, all I can say is wow. They came out and took the Bulldogs out of the fight. Talented, well coached, and physical. Thought they had a tendency to get chippy, almost arrogant and actually wasn't impressed with their mental focus. They will be tough but they still have things to work on. A well disciplined team will take advantage of that. The end result would have been the same but had Hanson been healthy the score would not have been so lopsided. Hanson going down early took the wind out of M-NS and two quick pick sixes by the back up were the dagger. Hanson tried to battle back but he was not his dynamic self. I still believe PRFL would have won the game but not in a blow out fashion like it was. The eastern side of the state is loaded with talent. Going to be a fun year to watch and from what I have seen its PRFL's to lose.

The people who get worked up over the polls make me giggle (in all divisions). It's pretty clear that the top 3 in class A will be mainstays in the poll and the 4 & 5 spots will be a revolving door. I'm glad I live in the west this year where every week will matter...anticipating a "sleeper" to get hot and make it to the bowl (similar to WNG 3 years ago).

We probably follow college sports too much, where polls matter a bit too much. Just a force of habit.

I know polls don't mean squat, But Rattler must just be upset that his team isn't in there (giggle)

Are you sure my team's not in there? I watch a lot of football and pay attention to quite a few different teams.

Wow kinda shocked. Not disagreeing but seeing Rugby still up there after getting stomped by Carrington surprised me. Not saying I disagree just surprised.

I would say part of the reason for Rugby still being up there is the fact they came out of the gate in week 1 with an impressive win over a team that just dropped down from AA. You can also use the "SEC argument," which is that strength of schedule is the most important aspect to rankings.

I think Hazen may be underrated. They lost to Beulah by 16 but Beulah just beat Bismarck St marys. Lot of Upsets last night. The only class that had a #1 pick in the polls that didn't get beat was class A PRFL. That will for sure be tested next week at Larimore. Game of the week in class A in my opinion. Should be a good one .Always is.

Then why do people think Velva is so great cause u know they have had such a tough schedule playing Max-Garrison and Standing Rock. Hard to believe they survived those two big tests. Watch out for the Aggies. 3-0 with wins over Max, SR and Southern Mclean.

I personally think the A poll is worthless. The media guys all live in big cities and only watch AAA and the AA teams in big towns like Trinity, St. Mary's and Shanley. Rugby had a good quarter vs Bishop Ryan and has been stomped since then and Velva has played 2 very weak teams plus Southern Mclean who is okay and they are ranked 5th. Meanwhile Rugby is still receiving votes!!! And bishop ryan beat standing rock by a bigger margin than Velva did and played Southern Mclean same as Velva and Bishop Ryan doesn't receive any votes. I'm pretty sure they only vote by who was good last year and historically strong names like Larry Sandy's Velva club and think they deserve a top 5 spot without looking at scores, injuries etc. AA and AAA polls seems pretty accurate and see movement but the A poll is always the same no matter what from week to week it seems.

There are four really solid teams this year...and then a 2nd tier (IMO). Poll has 5 spots...someone is going to get votes. There really could be several teams at #5.

I don't think comparing how 'badly' a team beats Standing Rock shows any strength...so I don't like that argument there...The first 3 or 4 weeks the polls really don't mean much (they don't mean that much at all any week). There are also plenty of voters that aren't from the larger towns...its not just large-city-dominated.

I agree with Run...The top 4 spots in the "A" poll are pretty accurate and won't change much unless someone suffers a couple losses. The 5 spot and vote getters will be a revolving door. I don't see it being "worthless" at all.

We'll have a good idea Friday night if Larimore is for real or not. I watched PRFL scrimmage against Red River and Central and I wouldn't be afraid to say that they would give Red River a run for their money and could easily beat Central. Don't be surprised if you see 6 or 7 of these players on the All-State team at the end of the year.

Is Larry Sandy still coaching Velva? What towns are playing for South McClean?

Larry Sandy has coached the same team for 26 years and has won 9 state championships. That type of success deserves respect from the pollsters. Looking at the strength of Region 3, it's quite possible that Velva/Sawyer goes undefeated through the regular season. I expect to see them hold onto that #5 spot until someone knocks them off.
BTW Rivershark, Larry is only 52 (53 in December), so don't be surprised to see him roaming the sidelines for several more years! Hid older brother Brad is the Sandy coach that recently retired.

I think madseason is right, Hazen is underrated. Early this year, I thought Killdeer might give Hazen a run for their money (and they still might), but Hazen seems to be getting better every week. That Carr kid is rock solid.

I think that Hazen will get more votes due to the Beulah's win over St. Mary's. That's what happens when you lose a game the first week (your 0 - 1) Even to a good team. Ryan lost to Rugby. Rugby got beat bad . Hard to get votes right now. Velva 3 - 0, looks like a good record to voters. And how bad you beat a bad team has no bearings in anything except that you may have kept in the older kids longer or you have a lot more older kids to play. Sounds like Velva play quite a few younger kids. Friday will tell a lot. Just like each week will. Relax!!! Enjoy the season, root for your team.
