2015 Polls

The teams in Class A

Re: 2015 Polls

Postby ndfootball4444 » Wed Sep 16, 2015 1:22 pm

At this point the polls are close to accurate. The only rated teams havnt seen play is Larimore and PR-FL but im sure PR-FL holds there own at 1. The west may be a bit weaker this year. Hazen and Killdeer may give some competition to the top 3 east teams and will fight it out in region play. Killdeer always plays physical and comes around near playoffs. Hazens line gets no push. The team lack some physicality but do have a few athletic kids. Most of these teams lack depth so playoff time the healthy teams may fair well. Right now #1, #2 ,& #3 are right where they should be. Under rated to me is Killdeer and West-Hope. I like W/N/G outa region 3.

lions700 wrote:I personally think the A poll is worthless. The media guys all live in big cities and only watch AAA and the AA teams in big towns like Trinity, St. Mary's and Shanley. Rugby had a good quarter vs Bishop Ryan and has been stomped since then and Velva has played 2 very weak teams plus Southern Mclean who is okay and they are ranked 5th. Meanwhile Rugby is still receiving votes!!! And bishop ryan beat standing rock by a bigger margin than Velva did and played Southern Mclean same as Velva and Bishop Ryan doesn't receive any votes. I'm pretty sure they only vote by who was good last year and historically strong names like Larry Sandy's Velva club and think they deserve a top 5 spot without looking at scores, injuries etc. AA and AAA polls seems pretty accurate and see movement but the A poll is always the same no matter what from week to week it seems.

Well, does Ryan get any votes this week????? Maybe Velva should be 5 right now, but another big test next Friday with Westhope.

So region 2 shakes out like this according to this forum:

Park River
Larimore
Rugby
Harvey
Langdon
Lakota

The top 2 are in a class of their own.
The middle two will round out the playoff teams.
And the bottom two will be the region's Vanderbilt and Purdue.

Only three this year? I didn't know that. That #1 seed is pretty important then. I don't like it. I think 4 should go no bye for anyone. I remember a couple years ago PRFL as the 4 seed beat #1 Maple valley Enderlin. Upsets happen and the 4 seed should get a chance. Also I don't think a week off at playoff time is such a great advantage.

Hammer Time. The ratio of total teams to playoff teams remains the same (2/1). We just went from a division of 32 teams down to one of 24. Thus the reduction in playoff participants from 16 to 12.

Velva/Sawyer defeated a decent Bishop Ryan team quite handedly...W-N-G will be another good test for Velva/Sawyer

Larimore, Killdeer, WGN all are good teams, they lost to good teams. But they have a loss, While VS and Northern Cass are undefeated. That goes a long ways with people doing the polls that do not know the teams very well. Velva did beat Ryan (36 - 6) who was pick to win the region. Minot Daily had a big write up which people saw. Relax, enjoy the season. Goal is to make the playoffs. Then make a run. Remember Velva won the state championship one year as a three seed.

Velva probably is in the right spot then. I think I would put Larimore, Killdeer and WGN over Northern cass.

Someone on here mentioned a lack of parity in Class A football. Last year, there were 5 undefeated teams playing in week 6. Hazen, Carrington, Oakes, Killdeer, and Rugby. There are only two this year. That should indicate a more level playing field, or at least more evenly skilled teams.

The team that won State last year was not in the poll?? HMM
lol: Polls mean squat!!! How many people said last year Hazen Killdeer was the state championship? I'd say about 80% 20% eastern believers.
