In the future....it would be best for everyone involved if people didn't make up awards that they think people got (example- Mr. Beck being all state basketball) he may be a great basketball player, but if he wasn't all state, let's not say he was. And as for the argument of who the better running back is here is my opinion. Yes Mitch Ford gets more carries...i will definatly give you that one. But this also means that in game planning every single week the opponents key on Mr. Ford. When teams play against Langdon they dont have the option of keying on just one player. So IMO we really can't judge who the better running back is. They are both outstanding football players who bring their own style to the table. And as for comparing Basketball to Wrestling...I know nothing about wrestling, and i'm not going to claim too. But their are like 12-14 weight classes (someone can correct me), and there are arround 14 total all state basketball players (1st, 2nd team). So I would give the nod in the winter sports to Mitch Ford.

Wombat wrote:Beck is twice the athlete that Ford is??? This argument about running back has been going on for a few weeks now and both have their supporters so I'd say they're pretty even. How good is beck on defense? cuzz ford is pretty darn good on D too... being a good football player doesn't make you an athlete though so let's talk about other sports... Ford is a returning State Champion in wrestling, the winter sport he's in (he's qualified for the state tournament every year since his 7th grade year). He's a stud catcher for the baseball team and although he wasn't a starter i'm pretty sure that he was part of at least 1 of the state championship baseball teams.... So he's a three sport athlete with state championships in all three sports... I really don't think that beck is TWICE the athlete that ford is.

I'm pretty sure that stud catcher didn't even start in the region tourney for the park river legion team.  Maybe we have different definitions of "stud" and "great".

We've seen both Beck and Ford, and they are both very good RBs.  Ford seems quicker off the snap and he hits the accelerator a little harder, but Beck seems more patient to let his blockers open for him.  Totally different styles of running.  Judging from our own players' speed, Ford seemed a little faster in the open field.  You can tell Ford is a wrestler---low center of gravity, and popping him won't put him on the ground.  Just an observation.

There is no way Ford is faster than Beck.  Stronger and more powerful runner, yes, but not faster.

I have not seen Riley Beck play. Reading this, I really want to.

I throw in a vote for Kordel Wolfe from Harvey. He is a real bruiser and runs over people. Harvey rides him as hard as they can and switch to different backs for a change of pace and it confuses the other team.

All of the players talked about on this post are very talented but each has their own style.  You could argue their  merits all day.  Just remember, in front of every good running back is a good line.  I was happy to see someone start a post about that.  I am extremely glad to have Mitch Ford on our team, but we would have gladly accepted Mr. McAtee, Beck, Wolfe, Schell or any number of talented backs I might have left out on our team.  Multiple threats help keep teams honest and make coaches look alot smarter!

Mitch Ford is the best running back in region 2.  Riley Beck is second.  Ford is so much harder to take down.

their both very good...beck is faster if i understand correctly, and mcafee (sp?) is stronger, two different kind of backs, so its kind of hard to tell which one is better, does that make any sense?

I definitely would say that Ford is probably the third best back since 2002.  That being said being behind Matt Anderson and then followed by Allan Sundby, those are two guys who weren't to shabby.  I don't know much about Langdon so I won't mention about Beck.  But I think that Blake Prosser and Zack Wold were both better runningbacks than Tyler Staskividge, but again these were both all-state runningbacks.

After looking at these stats a guy has to say Mcatee is the best he has the least amount of carries but huge numbers, so if my vote mattered which it dosnt but oh well, i say mcatee is the best hands down

After i watched the cougars play i am convinced that mcatee is the best back in the state hands down you have to have 3 or 4 guys to bring him down he is a real bruiser and he is also quick
