Rank 'em

Postby NDHSF » Mon Aug 24, 2009 4:04 pm

Rank the preseason Top 5 Division AA teams.

I put a site together for 11-man North Dakota High School football. www.northdakotahsfootball.blogspot.com

I'd like your help in ranking the teams in each Division.

Thank you.

I think Lisbon will struggle this year. They lost most of their lineman from last year and starting qb Josh Nims.

Devils Lake, on Friday, play VC so we should see what they have as far as expectations for the # 2 spot. I know its speculation, But how can we not have Watford City on the list here? Did they go to A?

I do agree with Wahpeton being the team to beat, but dont think they are unbeatable. Havent ever seen St Mary's play so this should be interesting for the two battling it out. Lisbon should be better than 5 I think, did they lose many of the stars from last year?

k...well Watford City is A and Lisbon lost a few star players from last year's team; but they always compete well with a good defense. We'll know more after this weekend!

Lisbon lost at least three starting defensive lineman and a couple of their linebackers too. It will take a while for these new kids to get adjusted. Their offensive line will not be nearly as big as they lose two shrine bowlers in Brent Durkin and Jordan Stenson.

The top two are both to high. Smith is a horse but he can't do it by himself. DL is one injury away from going .500. DL will be a three or four seed going into the playoffs

1. Wahpeton
2. St. Marys
3. DL
4. Shanley
5. Bottineau

St. Marys prolly has the best QB in all of AA in Justin Klabunde, he's a dual threat QB and they also have some good skill position players with Ryan Huber, Drew Carlson, and Jon Welk, all got speed. Should be a great game tonight vs. Wahp

I think you all need to start considering Central Cass. They blew out Oak Grove (26 - 0) and only lost to Wahpeton by 1 (14 - 13).

That's true that doesn't happen very much, but Central Cass is the only team to score on Wahpeton (13 pts), and Wahpeton is the only team to score on Central Cass (14 pts), this year and CC played them very well to the point they could have won the games in a few instances. I think that voters should look at strength of schedule and how games have been played against stronger teams. I don't believe that CC should be that high but they probally should be thought about for at least 5. I would be very suprised, as would a lot of others, if Central Cass falls off because they lost.

In the actual STATE poll from last week CC wasn't even in the Top 5 (see below)

"Class 2A
1. Wahpeton (10) 2-0 50 1
2. Devils Lake 2-0 38 2
3. Dickinson Trinity 2-0 31 3
4. Lisbon 2-0 20 5
5. Fargo Shanley 1-1 6 NR
Also receiving votes: Central Cass (2-0) 2, Bismarck St.Mary’s (0-2) 2, Grafton (1-1) 1"

It was only a matter of time before the Central Cass football program started clicking; a large school with good athletic tradition in other sports, there is no reason they shouldn't have a strong football program. The Squirrels played a terrific game against the Huskies, just a year or two ago it would have been considered crazy talk to say that Central Cass could have competed with Wahpeton in football. This year is just a step (a significant step) towards what should be a perrenially strong football team.

This year's senior class at CC has tried very hard in their careers and are pushing the younger guys. The team has grown slightly in the past few years and has gotten a lot better. This year I noticed the CC football team has t shirts that say Central Cass Football Starting a Tradition. This senior class has been waiting for this season.

Lisbon may be undefeated...but they aren't as good as their rankings would suggest!

Lisbon has a very good running back in Schell and a good tradition of being a great football team though.

The polls that came out today have Lisbon and Shanley in it with Central Cass honorable mention. I think Central Cass is better than Lisbon and Shanley. They only lost by 1 point to Wahpeton. Also, Valley City has been playing very good lately and I think they will def. beat Lisbon. One thing to look at with Valley City is they've skunked Oak Grove and Kindred in back to back weeks, while Lisbon only beat Oak Grove by 3.

Central Cass and VC aren't getting much respect but thats prob alright with them.

Central Cass plays Shanley on Friday so it will be great to see how that goes. Should be a good game!
