Man, those are good numbers. You don't think guys can run these times? I know two guys although not AA this year from Hazen who ran right at or below 4.5, so these other numbers are quite realistic. Give them some credit.

hand-timed or electronic?
Outdoors or indoors?
Pads or no pads?
What sort of track surface?
What sort of shoes?

The variables are endless.

With electronic timing and a neutral environment, I'd be shocked if the fastest kid in the state ran 4.6. But when you start getting into hand-timing, the times tend to get faster.

outdoors, no pads, the field, and cleats, hand held times

Are all of these guys going to the NFL I mean come on. The top performers in the NFL combine were running 4.5's. Most of these kids are seniors in HS not seniors in college. I doubt half of these times are accurate at all.

the only person that these times seem logical for is Ryan Smith of Wahpeton...all others seem to be a tad off...but I doubt Smith ran a 4.4 anything

I'm pretty sure NDSU uses handheld times - if so, add .2 seconds to the times you'd get at an NFL camp.

For the sake of comparison, one of the fastest two kids in South Dakota, Trevor Gebhart (personal best of 22.0 in the 200 and 10.8 in the 100) ran a 4.58 at NDSU's camp, but he is 6'2 and might not have quite as good a start as Ryan Smith, the fastest kid in North Dakota.

Moritz I'll take a kid thats a hard nosed football player that runs a 4.8 over a trackster who runs a 4.60. Do you even start for VC? I couldn't find any info on you. Most track stars don't pan out to be great football players, but good luck in the upcoming season, I'll be watching VC's box scores to see how that speed is working for you.

"Most track stars don't pan out to be great football players"

I can't believe someone actually just said this... best player in AA this year will be Ryan Smith and I'd say he's a good trackster... if you're talking professional football here you might be onto something, but in class AA football in North Dakota most kids that are fast on the track are very successful on the field... just to name a few in the last ten years or so... Kyle Steffes-Trinity, Sorenson brothers-Hazen, Ryan Smith-Waph, Andy Delabarre, Jared Essler-Minot Ryan... There is a reason that schools that have a strong track program also usually have a strong football team. Four of those six guys would be on my Top Ten Players in AA over the last ten years at seasons end.

True, but I would still like to see Usain Bold give it shot :)
