Baseball Towns

Postby gobison#6 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 1:53 pm

Just wondering about really good baseball towns around the state. I know Enderlin, Lamoure, Grafton, Munich, and Casselton have had good teams for many years. What other towns have had multiple years in a row with great teams? For example I know Casselton has state Babe Ruth championships in 2007 and 2009 along with appearances in 2006, 2010 and a few years earlier. They also have legion championships in 2008, 2010 and a third place finish in 2009. Also a high school state runnerup in 2009. Any other teams that could be known as very good year in and year out?

A Larger town (Class A) that has had great success in the past is Dickinson (2001, 2004, 2007, 2009 State High School Champs).

Velva is an easy choice. Midkota, Dakota Prairie, Lakota have all had succesfull programs in both HS and Legion. Washburn had a lot of good teams 5-15 years ago.

We would have to include Hope in this discussion. Beulah would be another good choice.

Yep I thought of Hope, Thompson, Velva, and Beulah after I posted. Thanks for bringing them up.

I don't know if anyone even reads these parts of the forum, but how have your answers changed from when this was last discussed? Thompson, Lamoure, and Langdon have to be near the top of teams in the last decade or longer.

Didn't Washburn make like 10ish state tournaments in a row in the 90s?

Washburn had a really good run in the late 80's through the 90's. I think Len Stanley was coaching the high school team and the Legion team. They had multiple state tourney appearances with both programs. That's also when Sawyer-Surrey was having a good run.

I think you are spot on about today - Langdon, Thompson, LaMoure at the top and then close behind Casselton, Cando/North Star, Kindred, and Carrington. It is hard to compare Kindred and Casselton to everyone else for Legion though, since they play Class A Legion.
