Jr Gold and Beyond!

Hopefully this one doesn't degenerate into an arugment over the best player of all time, but states the facts on the careers of some former Jr Gold players.

In another topic, it came up that Ryan Howatt, formerly of the Langdon Blades, is now playing Jr hockey in Dubuque, Iowa.

Does anyone have information on other players after Jr Gold and how far they got?

Here's one I know of;

Tom Philion, Crosby Comets, UND Fighting Sioux, 1996-97 NCAA Champions.

I'm sure someone from Crosby has more details than I do on the Svangstu boys and the Canadian Jr leagues (Dave?).

Did Tom play Junior Gold/Midgets as a High School aged kid in Crosby. I remember him moving to Minot to be a Magician and winning State in High School. He always had Minot listed as his hometown, but I did remember hearing he grew up in Crosby.

Good question, now that you mention it I'm not exactly sure when they left. I know he was in hockey with my brother, back in the day and his dad was my football coach.

I played hockey with Tom for quite a few years back in Crosby. I also moved to Minot before him...I don't remember exactly which year he moved but I think I was a Junior and he was a Sophomore. Tom played weepee all the way through Midgets before he moved and played Varsity for Minot High. I also played football, baseball and track with him. Tom was born on a pair of skates and a hockey stick in his hands, he was an awesome site to watch with a puck.......

I believe it was Lee and Mitch of the Svangstu's that tried out for Pro teams (I could be wrong as I haven't heard much of them since Ole died a few years back). Alan, Lynn, Brent, Brian all played but I don't think they ever went past Midgets.

Agreed, Wold was good, not an absolute stud, but very good. Jeff Kummer was also very good, they played great together. Of the best duos Jr Gold has seen. Nathan Axtman (i think) from Crosby, was a freak!! The first Midget/jG player to play in Chicago Showcase. Bartsch brothers and Triplett brothers from Rugby were good. Usually they were all they had, so they didnt play with much. Graham from Stallions was very good.
