I wasn't sure if the North and South teams from the 1980's had anything to do with the HS or if they've always been seperate. Don't know about the too many kids, but it looks like they've traditionally had 2 teams.
Made a call to a friend who played Jr. Gold for the Stallions and keeps up. The Stallions have been around since about 1996 or 1997. The tournament history says only Grand Forks prior to 2005, but they were the Stallions. There was no Jr. Gold/Midget in Grand Forks that competed in the state tournament for a number of years before 1996. In the late 80's/early 90's they were a park board run program where they had a north side and a south side team, then interest subsided or something, not sure. Now they are all across the city, no boundaries, and are independent of the park board. The Golds formed about 4 years ago according to him, they did not play as many games as the Stallions.
