Jr Gold Team/Game Roster Limits

What do you think about Jr Gold roster limits?

Currently NDAHA limits clubs playing up younger kids to 16. Wouldn't it make sense to set at least an equivilent game dress limit? You could even make it waiverable as long as each team had equal numbers.

Would this inspire the Fargo and Grand Forks clubs to add a third team?

Any thoughts?

There already is one and why do you want to make it so the small towns always have a better chance... they should prepare more and spend less time drinking if they want to get better work on things and get coaches that the kids like to play for learn a little from the small colleges like holy cross when they beat the gophers jeeze it is better for small towns to win every once in a while then it is actually a big deal for them

The point is setting a roster limit that levels the playing field, some, and force a balance to the city teams.

These are some of the best kids in town and they spend virtually every day on the ice. There is no time for drinking.

Where do you suggest we get the money to recruit coaches? Maybe you support additional state taxes to create a recreation fund for rural areas? You really do not get it, we're doing everything we can just to have a program to let the kids skate.

If it were really just about playing and having fun, wouldn't there be more playing time and fun on a team of 13 than 23? Wouldn't it be more competitive to have more smaller teams than fewer large teams?

If the average rosters were smaller and they could be competitive, would some of the towns with just high school teams (Bismarck, Minot, Dickinson, Williston, etc) also have a Jr Gold team for any kids left out?

Sure, the kids just want to play and have fun, but it's up to the adults to provide them with a fair opportunity.

No one wanted to hear about roster limits last year. But, with 2 and possibly 4 teams dropping out of the league or consolidating because they don't have enough players to compete, is it starting to make sense? Maybe people will get a clue when there are only 2 teams left in the league and they can pass the trophy back and forth each year.

There are roster limits that are set and enforced by North Dakota Hockey and USA Hockey. These teams follow the rules. The NDAHA sub-forum had a lot of topics get locked last year, let's try steer clear of locked topics this season. Whether or not a team decides to play with 9 or 17 players is up to their association.

where was this when flames had a whole line and a half last year? or when the flyers had a 9 skaters?

AC-DC, you are too biased to small towns. you need to think bigger than what is just happening to what you support.

The issues with the Fargo teams are well documented in previous topics. What I'm talking about would actually help their situation because you wouldn't get the 20 to 9 player inbalance between the two teams. And, you would probably see two Grand Forks teams again. Maybe everyone needs to look at the big picture.

This is my thought on the whole thing. With respect, I agree to disagree with ACDC's assessment of the situation and the big picture. First, regarding the Fargo and Grand Forks situations. The Fargo teams had a roster inbalance because they are 2 separate organizations and all the players wanted to play for one and not the other. A couple years prior, it is to the best of my knowledge that the Flyers were a new team and had 9 or 10 players only. There was no roster limit gripe at that time. Grand Forks will not see 2 teams again until there are at least 26-28 skaters interested in playing junior gold hockey. This has been stated over and over and doesnt look like it will change. Secondly, it looks like there was a possibility of having 4 teams drop out of the league this season (Langdon, Park River, Sidney, Watford City). By having these organizations combine or co-op, they made it so only 2 teams would drop out. To me, that seems like a winning situation, lose 2 teams instead of 4 teams. What you call the bigger picture, is the bigger picture in only your eyes according to the other bloggers here. It seems that if Crosby is short players, they should attempt to co-op with someone as well. (Maybe Williston has players who are not playing HS who are interested in junior gold.) These other organizations are doing so to give their interested players a chance to play and be competitive. The bigger picture is that these organizations did what they needed to do to make sure their players had a place to skate.
