im hoping some year...the west can surprise us...

another thing i was wondering about... can we please have the state tournament at the new fargo rink coming to town...I think more people would show up then because Grand Forks is a long ways away for alot of people. I live in Fargo and I do love going to the Ralph...but I think its time for the advantage being tilted to a non-GF team. I think it would be a packed house in Fargo, unlike the Ralph has been the last couple years here......just what I think...have WDA at Bismarck/Minot...have EDC at the Ralph...and have the State Tourney at Urban Plains Center...just to change it up...just for a one year thing too..I think they should alternate between this new rink and the Ralph...a change of scenery is always nice. I guarantee it would pack that new rink up....look at what happened when the Ralph just opened...record crowds...obviously its not possible to break that record at this new facility cuz it doesn't hold the seating that the Ralph does but I see a lot of empty seats in the Ralph on tv...more to do in fargo anyways!

the ralph is one of the best facilities in the entire country i highly doubt the state tournament would be moved to fargo. also, for traveling teams the hour difference in travel time between grand forks and fargo is negligible. of course the ralph looks like it has a lot of empty seats...i mean...it IS the biggest rink in the state its not gonna fill for a high school tourney like it fills for sioux games.

i think no matter what, you will have higher attendance at the ralph. it's a great place to be to watch hockey

the hour long journey for the fargo teams going to grand forks may not seem like much. but when the teams have to do it 6 times in 2 weekends??? thats when it gets to be a drag. grand forks does have to home advantage. maybe thats a slight advantage to the edc and state titles?? maybe not, just saying. the new fargo rink will be a great place to host edc or state. why not change things up. grand forks gets 6 home games in a row to close the season, while the rest of the state gets 6 away games to close the season.

i agree that gf teams have had it to good for to long with the state and regional tourny being on home ice. i think that the ralf if way to nice of a place to give up for the state tourney but they should move the region tourneys arround. i allways like playing in a smaller packed house over a nice big barn that doesnt fill up... maybe moving the region tourny arround would help th state tourney attendance by giving the other towns a taste of some good hockey.

The EDC regional used to rotate between Fargo and Grand Forks. A combination of the building of the Ralph, and the remodeling of the Purpur Arena made it tough to rotate the EDC. They played the EDC in the Ralph a couple of years but since then it has been played at Purpur Arena. You want to play it in the John Carlson Coliseum? Yeah Right! 1 note on a previous poster who said the Fargo teams make 6 trips to Grand Forks on the last 2 weeks. The Fargo teams stayed in hotels during state for at least 1 night this past season, maybe even both nights, that wouldn't be 6 trips. I do hope that when the new arena in Fargo is built they will move EDC to Fargo. It seems like it would be a great venue for the EDC tournament.

I agree rotate edc between GF and fargo or jsut give it to fargo. But i dont agree with putting hockey state in fargo. That would be like almost putting the "b" in grand forks. Fargo doesnt have as big of interest in hockey as GF does. A lost of the general sioux fans here that still want there hockey fix end up at the state hockey possibly to see future sioux players or future wcha players. There arent too many general hockey fans in fargo. only fans there are the parents that have kids play for the teams and the schools kids.

sioux4ever-- you have some good points but also some unknown facts as you stated you knew for sure that the Fargo teams stayed in hotels at least one night in GF this past year.

I read that last night, just talked to a friend in Fargo today.
She said that Fargo South did not stay in GF in hotel, for either EDC or State.
She did not know about North. she suspected that they did not stay either.

Here in the West some teams have to stay because it is a heck of a long waqys to travel back and forth for WDA tourney.
Plus all Western teams have to stay in hotels every year for state.
Advantage GF teams --yes! Advantage East teams-yes! but Oh well. We do not have a venue close to holding a tourney like the Ralph does.
Move the tourney a few times and see if it changes outcomes. Over the past few years I would have to say it would not have changed a thing.

08- GPR they didn't stay in any hotels and traveled 45 minutes each way, each day for EDC and State-
The Runner-up GFRR -No travel, 3rd place FSouth- traveled back and forth.
07- GFRR- they had no travel EDC or State, Runner-up FSouth- presume they traveled back and forth., 3rd place Devils Lake- not sure if they stayed or traveled(the what 90 miles one way)
06- FSouth- they traveled back and forth, GFRR-no travel

Just think-- I do not believe that a West team , even sleeping in their own beds would have won any more games at State than they did in those years.
This year alone-BHS won one game, Williston won their first ever game at state(in all their trips).

Move it if yu think it shoould be moved, it will not stop the Top teams from winning. That is my opinion.
Drop the Puck and play!

There isn't any better place to play the state tournament then the Ralph. Even if you are 300 miles from grand forks. That rink is amazing. Those kids will never forget playing in that rink for as long as they live. The ralph is nicer than almost all NHL rinks. The only beef I have is that all teams should be staying in motels(even the host city)it means alot when a player can sleep in there own bed. It is a huge factor when both teams are equal in talent and one is in a motel and one is at there own home.

The way the tournament was ran this year I wouldn't doubt if the state tournament was held in both Grand Forks and Fargo. Why not? Instead of using the purpur for the losing teams and the girls why not just make them go all the way to Fargo? It makes about as much sense as this years unfortunate tournament was ran....

Fargo South will have two good lines and stud defence plus an all-state goalie.

It's not that hard to stop 20 shots a game especially when 15 of them are dump ins...he's good, but he isn't gunna be a game changer

I'll second that opinion if they play solid defense in front of their net and don't give up too many shots...if teams get 30-35 shots on them i can defineatly see them losing some games...but i don't think that will happen

south will have a solid team next year as will grafton (of course) and RR may surprise people and be really good again with some of those new transfers coming from GFC? plus they still have crary howe and bancroft for first line forwards? may not have much depth but will still have a few really talented players
